Blue Train
Page & Plant Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Another day is ending
I remember when my world, came falling down
Out there the stars stop dancing
Lost in my darkness now, the rain keeps falling down

Light of my life, where have you gone
Love's true flame dies, without the warmth of your sun
Here comes the blue train rollin'
Across my heart it crawls, the rain still pouring down
Another day escapes me
A little later maybe, love will roll around

Light of my life, where have you gone
Love's true flame dies, without the warmth of your sun

I've been waiting on a corner
Yeah, I've been waiting for a sign now
Oh, I've been waiting on the corner
I've been waiting for a sign now, oh, now

Light of my life, where have you gone
Love's true flame dies, without the warmth of your sun

Whistle blowin', blue train rollin', carry my heart, my soul, oh, hey
Whistle blowin', blue train rollin', carry my darling son, hey, hey
Whistle blowin', blue train rollin', carry my heart

I've been waiting on a corner
I've been waiting for a sign now
Oh, I've been waiting on the corner
I've been waiting for a sign, now, oh, ooh

Whistle blowin', blue train rollin'
Come and carry my, my, my heart now, oh, oh yeah

I've been standing on a corner
I've been waiting for a sign now

Hear the blue train, hear the blue train, oh
It's the blue train rolling

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Page & Plant's song "Blue Train" tell the story of someone reflecting on a time when their world fell apart and they lost the love of their life. The rain is falling down, and they are lost in darkness without their partner. They are waiting on a street corner for a sign that they will find love again, and they hear the whistle of a blue train. The train represents hope that love will roll around again, with the lyrics "carry my heart, my soul." The tone of the song is melancholic, but there is also a sense of anticipation for what the future may bring.

The blue train mentioned in the song may be a metaphor for the journey of life and love. It could represent the idea that life moves forward and we must keep going, even when things are difficult. The train's whistle could signify the hope of new beginnings, and the train's movement towards a new destination could symbolize the hope for a new love or relationship. The train rolling across the singer's heart could also represent the healing process of time and moving on.

Overall, "Blue Train" is a bittersweet song about lost love and the hope for new beginnings. It explores the emotions of heartbreak, hope, and longing for love once again.

So you know the blue train go
It carry my heart and my soul
Whistle blowing - blue train rolling

@Videoparuser

Ha! We saw robert plant in Memphis 88? in passenger seat of car driving by RX school. Waved! Was headed south to Mississippi...
Saw show either night before or after. Many moons ago.
World's Worst band opened...faith no more....sucked shat. Guitarist played only 1 string and hortibly. They chanted to Satan.

Rbt plant came out and said, " sorry, 'bout that."

edit!! That story was from Muskogee, OK!! Oops.

Memphis wascjust him i think.

He was grreat. 85 i think. Robbie Blount on guitar.

I listened to this cd a lot in the late 90s and early 2000s. Blue train was and is my favorite track on the record. Very clear emotion all around

@davidraymer397

FACTS

@mattdefore5935

There was only one outside the unplugged show

@Jlipnicki

Yet it did not sell, and received indifferent reviews. The vinyl release now costs silly money.

@pickout2

@@Jlipnicki It's a pretty boring album. I'm a Zep/Jimmy Page fan. I wanted to like this when it came out, but the songs arent good, Plant's voice is the worst I've ever heard him on record. He sounds whiny. There's almost no reverb on his voice. Sounds like demos. Jimmy doesnt do any guitar orchestrations. Every album from Zep, to his solo stuff... He always mixed gtrs (Light and shade).... The songs are also way too long. Does this tune really need to be 7 mins?? It just goes on and on....Blue Train would have benefited by being cut in half, plus acoustic/electric gtr orchestrations, and a REAL guitar solo... Not the "noodling" Page does here.... zzzzzzz
