The Lord's Prayer
Page CXVI Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Father, in Heaven
Hallowed be Thy name
Your kingdom come
Your will be done
Here, as in Heaven
oh, oh, oh, oh
Give us this day
Our daily bread
forgive us our debts
as we forvige all who owe
and lead us, not into temptation
deliver us from all that's evil
for Thine is the Kingdom
and the power and the glory

for Thine is the Kingdom
and the power and the glory

Overall Meaning

The song The Lord's Prayer by Page CXVI is a musical interpretation of the biblical Lord's Prayer. The song consists mainly of the prayer itself with only minor variations from the biblical text. The opening lines "Father, in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name" are a way of acknowledging that there is a higher power above us that deserves respect and veneration. The next line "Your kingdom come, Your will be done" is a call for the Almighty's will to be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. The repetition of the line "Here, as in Heaven" reminds us that God's kingdom is not something that is far away, but it is here and now.

The next lines, "give us this day our daily bread, forgive us our debts as we forgive all who owe" is a plea for our daily needs and also a reminder that we must forgive others in order to receive forgiveness. The lines "and lead us, not into temptation, deliver us from all that's evil" are a plea for protection from the temptations and evils of the world. Finally, the song ends with a declaration that all power and glory belong to God alone.
