Page France were an indie folk-pop music band. Their music tends to be emotional and their songs tend to have simple melodies. Page France is sometimes compared to Sufjan Stevens for their use of uncommon instruments such as the glockenspiel and banjo.
The band broke up in 2008. Frontman Michael Nau is now focusing his full attention on Cotton Jones.
The band has been characterized by some as Christian due to a number of references in song lyrics and titles. However, lyricist Nau counters: "The 'Christian band' inquiry wears me out, to be honest. As for the Christian symbols in my writing — sometimes I don’t even realize that they exist until someone points them out to me. There’s really no reason; it just rolled out that way."
The band is a frequent feature on a number of music blogs, notably You Ain't No Picasso.

Like a chariot
At the trumpet call
When we're all unsafe
Swing
Like a wrecking-ball
Like the heart of god
What a mystery
With the wedding feast
For the snakes and beasts
With the angel teeth
Swing
Come and carry us
Come and marry us
To the blushing circus king
And dance like elephants
As he comes to us
Through a fiery golden ring
With a violin
And a song to sing
As he brings for us our wings
Now he's one of us
Plays the tambourine
Raise the bread for us
And sing
Will you wait for us
Will you stay for us
Will you grace us everything
You're a wrecking ball
With a heart of gold
We will wait for it to swing
Like a chariot
Swing it low for us
Come and carry us away
So we will become
A happy ending
So we will become
A happy ending
Fire come and carry us
Make us shine or make us rust
Tell us that you care for us
We need to hear a word for us
Let your body sail with us
Or let our bridge return to dust
Chariot
You swing for us
You think that you can carry all of us
So we will become
A happy ending
So we will become
A happy ending
So we will become
A happy ending
So we will become
A happy ending
Page France's song, "Chariot," is a poetic representation of the coming of a higher being or God, who comes in the form of a chariot or a "wrecking-ball" to carry humanity to safety. The lyrics suggest that when the "trumpet call" is heard and everything seems unsafe, the chariot will swing low to carry humanity to safety. The lyrics also imply that the chariot will provide a "wedding feast" for everyone, including the "snakes and beasts," and that the chariot's arrival will be accompanied by music, specifically a violin.
As the song progresses, the lyrics encourage listeners to wait for the arrival of the chariot and to remain faithful until it arrives. The song finishes with a repetition of the phrase "So we will become a happy ending" several times, suggesting that the arrival of the chariot will result in the people becoming happy.
The song incorporates religious symbolism and metaphors to represent the coming of a savior or a higher being. The use of a chariot and music is reminiscent of the Bible story of Elijah, who was taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire, and is also symbolic of the coming of a king or ruler who will bring peace and happiness to the people.

Michael Nau is one of my all-time favorite musicians. I've loved several Page France songs for many years now and they are in regular rotation at our house.
He's had quite a few bands over the years. Several of them have songs that are/were difficult to find. (I know. I search several times a month.)
I own Cotton Jones - Paranoid Cocoon and listen to it often. I have favorites from it, but I like the whole album. Here is a list of some songs from it you may enjoy:
Up A Tree (Went This Heart I Have)
Some Strange Rain
Gone The Bells
Photo Summerlude
Little Ashtray In Sun
I Am The Changer
I ordered the album after I was shot and spent three months in the hospital. Many of his songs have a haunting and melancholy quality to them. Even though, Paranoid Cocoon helped me along my unbelievably long road to recovery. It's been 2 years 9 months and 19 days and though I'm still not and may never be back to 100%, I am thankfully still alive and I still love Michael Nau's music. I wish they'd put his songs in movies, tv sows, ads, etc, so he can get the fame/recognition he deserves.
