Page France were an indie folk-pop music band. Their music tends to be emotional and their songs tend to have simple melodies. Page France is sometimes compared to Sufjan Stevens for their use of uncommon instruments such as the glockenspiel and banjo.
The band broke up in 2008. Frontman Michael Nau is now focusing his full attention on Cotton Jones.
The band has been characterized by some as Christian due to a number of references in song lyrics and titles. However, lyricist Nau counters: "The 'Christian band' inquiry wears me out, to be honest. As for the Christian symbols in my writing — sometimes I don’t even realize that they exist until someone points them out to me. There’s really no reason; it just rolled out that way."
The band is a frequent feature on a number of music blogs, notably You Ain't No Picasso.

You were lying like a soldier
In the grass
In the grass
Like the war was over
Blue eyes when you took a breath
It was heavy on my shoulder
Clap your hands
It looks like the worst is over
blue eyes when the wind was here
You were blown just like a feather
In the trees
In the trees
You were caught inside forever
Blue eyes when you hold your breath
I can breathe in deeper
Clap your hands
Clap your hands
The grass doesn't get no greener
blue eyes when the wind was done
You were carried on my shoulders
Praise the land
Praise the land
And all of it's place-holders
Praise the land
Praise the land
And all of it's place-holders
The lyrics of Page France's song "Grass" paint a beautiful and poignant picture of a serene and peaceful moment in nature. The song compares the delicate and fleeting nature of life to the grass that is always there, but constantly changing. The blue-eyed person in the song is lying in the grass like a soldier, and the war is over. This could be interpreted as a metaphor for the struggles of life and how, eventually, they come to an end.
The song continues with the person being blown like a feather in the trees, perhaps representing the fleeting nature of life and the fact that we are all at the mercy of the winds of fate. However, in the end, there is hope. The grass may not always be greener, but there is still beauty and goodness to be found in life. The song ends with the singer carrying the blue-eyed person, praising the land and all of its place-holders. This could be seen as an expression of gratitude and appreciation for the blessings of life, even amidst its challenges.
Overall, Page France's "Grass" is a beautiful and thought-provoking song that invites us to reflect on the beauty and fragility of life, and to find hope and gratitude amidst its struggles.
