COME ON HOME
Pages Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You'd be so nice to come home to
You'd be so nice by the fire
While the breeze on high, sang a lullaby
You'd be all my heart could desire

Under stars chilled by the winter
Under an August moon shining above
You'd be so nice, you'd be paradise
To come home to and love

Under stars chilled by the winter
Under an August moon burning above

You'd be so nice, you'd be paradise
To come home to and love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Come on Home" by Pages describe how much the singer desires their lover to return home to them. The opening line of "You'd be so nice to come home to" sets the tone for the romantic longing that is present throughout the song. The line implies that the person they are singing to is not only desirable but also comforting, and that returning to them would offer the singer solace. The following verse further emphasizes this, as it describes the idea of being with the person by the fire while the breeze outside sings a lullaby.

The subsequent verses discuss two different seasons: winter and summer. It is evident that the singer longs to be with the person they are singing to regardless of the time of year. In both verses, the person they want to come home to is described as being paradise, emphasizing the significance of their return. The repetition of the line "You'd be so nice, you'd be paradise" reinforces this idea.

This song is a testament to the power of love and longing. The idea that someone else can make you feel whole is something that has been explored in music for centuries, and "Come on Home" is no exception. It is a romantic and hopeful song, with the lyrics painting a vivid image of the idealized love the singer longs for.

This is beautiful. What happened? Someone must have not been promoting them right or something. This group is a group I can listen to all day.

@mparret

I just heard "Let it Go" this week and said the same thing! Has a Kenny Loggins vibe I think...

@katkiller50

This duo should have been a hell of a lot more famous than they were. This is very smooth heart & soul. The talent was there, but the radio didn't play their music. A dam shame

@Sharkim66

Agree. Page and George sang beautifully on every record they were on. Harmonies were tight, clean and carried superb emotional nuances too. Much like how good Maurice White and Philip Bailey complemented each other to produce priceless sounds.

@arctictfan3470

@@Sharkim66 They became very famous as Mr Mister. Same two guys

@Sharkim66

@@arctictfan3470 But MM was too rock oriented imho. In Pages, they were mellow and soulful

Pages is my all time favorite band. I am so glad i found it in my older brother's record collection at age 12. Simply timeless music. The best music sounds as crisp and new even 40 years after it was released, the first time.

@Wacokid48

these guys just owned that SOUND !! LA - Heart...Soul...don't matter what what you name it...it's just just superb music !

@Sharkim66

Perhaps the most bewildering thing about the Graydon-Foster WestCoast years was how Foster went on to so much commercial success while arguably the better producer Graydon stagnated and went quietly into anonymity. Graydon produced brilliantly ; Pages, Dionne, Manhattan Transfer's Mecca for Moderns and the three classic Al Jarreau albums - This Time, Breaking Away and Jarreau - are superb and IMHO superior to all the Foster productions around the same time.

@xz-187

Luck-related issue, apparently. Yet we could concur that Graydon is a better producer and if Yacht Rock is transformed into one single human entity, it would have been in the form of Jay Graydon.
