War
Palisades Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You're the only one to blame

If you try to see looking through your sleeve
You don't have to be afraid
But if you try to clean with kerosene
You'll burn away (burn away)

You roll the dice to see your fate
The devil always wins the game
You're better off with throwing grenades

Blow it up, you like the way it burns
You'll burn at every turn
Soon enough you're gonna have to learn
When you light the fire to your flame
There's nothing left to say
Don't expect for me to call your name

'Cause you wanna dream
But your therapy gets stuck inside your head
And when you try to leave
The hand that feeds is on your neck (on your neck)

You roll the dice to see your fate
The devil always wins the game
You're better off with throwing grenades

Blow it up, you like the way it burns
You'll burn at every turn
Soon enough you're gonna have to learn
When you light the fire to your flame
There's nothing left to say
Don't expect for me to call your name

You're the only one
You're the only one to blame
Come on
The only one to blame

Blow it up, you like the way it burns
You'll burn at every turn
Soon enough you're gonna have to learn
Explode, explode
When you light the fire to your flame
There's nothing left to say
Don't expect for me to call your name

You're the only one to blame
Don't expect for me to call your name
The only one to blame

Don't expect for me to call your name
The only one to blame

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Palisades's song "War" are about taking responsibility for one's actions and the consequences that come with it. The first verse talks about trying to hide or mask one's flaws instead of facing them head-on, which only leads to self-destruction. The line "you roll the dice to see your fate, the devil always wins the game" signifies the risky decisions we make, hoping for a positive outcome but always falling prey to our own demons. The chorus, "blow it up, you like the way it burns, you'll burn at every turn, soon enough you're gonna have to learn" suggests that the singer enjoys living dangerously and recklessly, but soon enough they will have to face the music. In the second verse, the lyrics talk about the difficulty of leaving a toxic situation or relationship and how people often fall into the trap of dependence, which only leads to their own downfall.

The chorus repeats itself, emphasizing that the singer is the only one responsible for their actions and consequences. The bridge alludes to the idea that people often use excuses such as therapy to mask their behaviour and avoid taking responsibility. The line "the hand that feeds is on your neck" shows that the singer feels trapped and suffocated. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing that the singer is the only one to blame and should not expect anyone else to come to their rescue.

Guitar riffs are the best in the history of this band and you can hear how far this band has come. I love seeing a band mature into their sound. Such beauty.

@bourky464

I’ve been a fan of metal since I was 11 years old. I’m 29 now. I’ve heard everything, and finally listened to this this morning, honestly one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. That guitar is absolutely amazingly beautiful.

@jeanpaul6545

@iassenlazarov4421

It's a good track, but the best - if you've heard literally everything? To each his own I guess...

@have_atit

I wish you could have seen Pantera live. Was chaos but chill.

@grimelsnonsense7155

I like it. Feels very 2000s.

@OyeThere

Yes! It was messing with my ears because I heard thousand foot krutch in his voice. As a teen of the late 90s early 2000s I can honestly say I love this sound
