With a lineup composed of Sam Fryer (vocals, guitar), Chilli Jesson (vocals, bass), Pete Mayhew (keyboards) and Will Doyle (drums), the band's musical output was primarily based around the rock genre, with some Garage rock and psychedelic influences. Their first single 'Best of Friends' was voted NME's song of the year for 2012. Palma Violets second single 'Step Up For The Cool Cats' was announced and released on 9th February. Palma Violets' debut album 180 was released on the 25 February 2013.
Following the release of their 2015 album Danger in the Club, there was a noted silence from the band on social media leading to speculation that the band had split up. This was confirmed in an interview by Matt Wilkinson with guitarist Sam Fryer on 11 July 2018. All the members of Palma Violets bar Alexander "Chilli" Jesson are currently in a new band called Gently Tender with Celia Archer of The Big Moon. Of the affair he noted "We didn't fall out or anything like that. We just changed as people. We were 18 when we started the band and everything is quite easy to get on the same page, write the same kind of music all the time. Whereas when you hit 24 after 5 years of touring, I think you just become different people and we naturally just moved on"

Down shot me a doll
All the garden birds
All you need is love
Darling
All the garden birds
All you need is love
I don't think I can have
Check it
I don't think I can have
Check it
I don't think I can have
All my friends were the an all of the garden
All my friends were the an all of the garden
All my friends were the an all of the garden
All my friends were the an all of the garden
The opening lines of Palma Violets' "All the Garden Birds" are shrouded in ambiguity, as the first two lines appear to contradict one another. "Doll you shot me down" could be interpreted as the singer addressing a puppet or a mannequin that they personify as a lover. The second line, "Down shot me a doll," is similarly cryptic, and could refer to the singer feeling invalidated or insignificant in the eyes of their partner or society as a whole. The song's repetition of the phrase "All the garden birds" could be interpreted as a metaphor for freedom, beauty, or an ideal state of being that the singer is searching for. The lyric "All you need is love" places the song within the context of the Beatles' classic hit of the same name, which is fitting given the song's nostalgic, dreamlike quality.
The chorus of "All the Garden Birds" appears to contain a sense of resignation or sadness, as the singer begins by calling their partner "darling" before stating "And I don't think I can have." The line "Check it" could be interpreted as a plea for someone to confirm their fears or doubts about their ability to have the love they seek. The repetition of "I don't think I can have" only serves to emphasize this feeling of futility. The final four lines of the song could be read as a call for solidarity or shared experience, as the singer emphasizes that "All my friends were the/an all of the garden," suggesting a connection to nature or a shared sense of purpose.
