2) Palo Alto are a four-piece based in Manchester and Leeds, and were formed in 2001. You might say they were a indie-alternative-experimental-post-rock kind of band.
They released the early LP “All Fall Down”. Later years saw the release of the “Still EP” (2002) and “Wades In To Water” (2003) on Manchester’s Valentine Records. More recently “Every Way To Fall” has raised it’s head. More releases are promised to follow. They can be found at www.myspace.com/paloaltoband.
Alas, Palo Alto are no more (2005)... But don't fear, you can catch Elaine and Paul in The Declining Winter.
The World Outside
Palo Alto Lyrics

Can you feel it up inside
You show how much your father's part of you
Thinking it makes no sense
But would it really make you turn away
Would it really change your life
Hey
Hey hey
There's a world outside of you
Hey hey
There's a world outside of you
Feelings locked inside this corridor
Could they make you change your mind
Feeling hope can seem so far away
Thinking
It's good to find
Would you really let this go to waste
Would it really change you life
Hey
Hey hey
There's a world outside of you
Hey hey
There's a world outside of you
But there's a world outside of you
So come on
You want to feel it all inside
So come on
You want it all
Your gravity pulls you so far away
Thinking
How long will this last
Nothing you take makes you feel all the best
It's too much
Not enough
It's OK
You break out of this age
Hey hey
There's a world outside of you
Hey hey
There's a world outside of you
Well there's a world outside of you
Hey hey
There's a world outside of you
Hey hey hey
There's a world outside of you
Hey hey
There's a world outside of you
Hey hey hey
In "The World Outside" by Palo Alto, there are consequences waiting for the character, and they can feel it inside. The lyrics mention the character's father being a part of them, but they don't understand it. The character wonders if turning away from their current path would change their life, showing that they are feeling stuck and unsure of what to do. The song then switches gears to talk about the importance of realizing that there is a world outside of oneself. Feelings can be locked inside, but they can also make a person change their mind. The lyrics encourage the listener not to let opportunities go to waste and to embrace the world outside of oneself.
Overall, the song seems to be about internal struggles and the need to look outside of oneself to find hope and change. The character is unsure of what to do and is feeling the weight of their choices, but the lyrics encourage them to look beyond themselves to find what they need.

Rick Rubin's production still sounds fresh. I like how he recorded guitars on this album. As usual, it's a multi-layered event. This is a fine album.

This album is an underrated masterpiece of 2000's alt rock. If these guys were from the UK instead of the US, they would've been as popular as Coldplay and Muse.
