Pandora 101 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Bottomless Vales and Boundless Floods
And Chasms, and Caves, and Titan Woods
With Worms That No Man Can Discover
For The Tears That Drip All Over
Mountains Toppling Evermore
Into The Seas Without a Shore
That Aspire, Unto The Skies Of Fire
By The Lakes That Thus Outspread
Their Lone Waters, Lone and Dead,-
By The Grey Woods,- By The Swamp
Where The Toad and The Newt Encamp-
There The Traveler Meets Aghast
Sheeted Memories Of The Past-
Shrouded Forms That Start and Sigh
As They Pass The Wanderer By-

By a Route Obscure and Lonely
Haunted By ill Angels Only
Where an Eidolon, Named Night
On a Black Throne Reigns Upright
I Have Reached These Lands But Newly
From an Ultimate Dim Thule-
From a Wild Clime That Lieth, Sublime
Out of Space- Out Of TIme

But The Traveler, Travelling Through It
May Not- Dare Not Openly View It!
Never Its Mysteries Are Exposed
To The Weak Human Eye Unclosed
So Wills Its King, Who Hath Forbid
The Uplifting Of The Finged Lid
And Thus The Sad Soul That Here Passes
Beholds It But Through Darkened Glasses

By a Route Obscure and Lonely
Haunted By ill Angels Only
Where an Eidolon, Named Night
On a Black Throne Reigns Upright
I Have Reached These Lands But Newly
From an Ultimate Dim Thule-

From a Wild Clime That Lieth, Sublime
Out of space, Out of time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Pandora 101's song Dreamland describe a fantastical and otherworldly landscape full of bottomless vales, boundless floods, chasms, caves, and Titan woods. The imagery is dark and ominous, with references to worms that no man can discover and tears that drip all over. The landscape is constantly shifting, with mountains toppling evermore into seas without a shore and aspiring unto the skies of fire. The traveler observes lone and dead waters, grey woods, and swamps where toads and newts encamp. The memories of the past are also present, shrouded forms start and sigh as they pass the wanderer by. The traveler has reached these lands newly from an ultimate dim Thule, from a wild clime that lies sublime out of space and out of time.

The lyrics are inspired by the short story "Dream-Land" by Edgar Allan Poe. The story, published in 1844, is a surrealist and allegorical journey through a landscape of wonder and terror. The lyrics capture the mood and atmosphere of the story, with references to many of the same elements and imagery.
