Far Too Young to Die
Panic! at the Disco Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've never so adored you
I'm twisting allegories now
I want to complicate you
Don't let me do this to myself

I'm chasing roller coasters
I've got to have you closer now
Endless romantic stories
You never could control me

Well I never really thought that you'd come tonight
When the crown hangs heavy on either side
Give me one last kiss while we're far too young to die.
Far too young to die
Far too young to die

Fixation or psychosis?
Devoted to neurosis now
Endless romantic stories
You never could control me

Well I never really thought that you'd come tonight
When the crown hangs heavy on either side
Give me one last kiss while we're far too young to die.

Well I never really thought that you'd come tonight
When the crown hangs heavy on either side
Give me one last kiss while we're far too young to die.
Far too young to die
Far too young to die

Well I never really thought that you'd come tonight
When the crown hangs heavy on either side

Give me one last kiss while we're far too young to die.
Far too young to die

Overall Meaning

In Panic! at the Disco's song "Far Too Young to Die," the singer is struggling to maintain control despite being pulled towards someone they deeply adore. The first verse mentions the singer's tendency to "twist allegories," suggesting that they may be overthinking or complicating their feelings for this person. They ask the person not to let them do this to themselves, indicating that they may be aware of their own destructive tendencies.

The chorus features the repeated phrase "far too young to die," which is a sentiment that has been echoed in various songs and stories throughout history. It's typically used to emphasize the idea of living life to the fullest, particularly in one's youth. In this case, the singer seems to be acknowledging that they may be taking risks by pursuing this person, but they feel compelled to do so anyway.

The second verse mentions fixation and neurosis, suggesting that the singer may be struggling with their mental health. Despite this, they continue to chase after this person in the hopes of experiencing "endless romantic stories" together. The repeated phrase "when the crown hangs heavy on either side" may refer to the idea of responsibility or obligation weighing on the singer, but they are still willing to take a risk and pursue this person.

Overall, "Far Too Young to Die" is a song about the joys and dangers of letting your emotions guide you, particularly when it comes to matters of the heart. The singer is fully aware of the risks involved in pursuing this person, but they can't help themselves.

I'm imagining two people who have been best friends since childhood, as they grow up one of them realizes their feelings for the other person but feels conflicted because they don't want their feelings to mess up what they have and they're afraid of rejection "I never so adored you... Don't let me do this to myself"

The person feels like their best friend is something unachievable romantically but their feelings are only growing when trying to suppress them "I'm chasing rollercoasters, I got to have you closer now"

The innocent crush builds up to an unhealthy obsession even though the person is trying to fight against their feelings "Fixation or psychosis? Devoted to neurosis now"

Eventually they confess their feelings over a letter to appear less intimidating with the overwhelming feelings and ask to meet up at their special place if they want to take a chance in love, feeling sure their best friend wouldn't show up "Well, I never really thought that you'd come tonight"

They meet and even though unsure of what would become of them and if it could ever work between the two, they kiss while they have nothing left to lose "Give me one last kiss while we're far too young to die"

This song, this fucking song- there's something about it. It's really sad, honestly. It just gives me this emotion, this feeling, and I can't point it out.

Wait, that's every Panic! song.

I think it's because it's conveying the message that he's far too young to die, but his life is wasted already.
