Anthem
Pansy Division Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We´re here to tell you, ya better make way
We´re queer rockers in your face today
We can´t relate to judy garland
It´s a new generation of music calling
We´re the buttfuckers of rock & roll
We wanna sock it to your hole
With loud guitars, we´re gay and proud
We gonna get ya with your pants down
Closeted rockers, we´ve heard of a few
They won´t risk their careers to come out to you
We have no such deceptions, no such ploys
We make it clear we wanna sleep with boys
We´re buttfuckers of rock & roll
We wanna sock it to your hole
We don´t care if you´re top or bottom
Just use your butthole, everyone´s got 'em
We do love rock & roll, it´s true
But that boy-meets-girl stuff just won´t do
We got condoms, got our lube
We know how to use 'em, how 'bout you?
We are the buttfuckers of rock & roll
We wanna sock it to your hole

Latino, asian, white, or black
We´re gonna getcha on your back

Overall Meaning

Pansy Division's song Anthem is a defiant statement of the band's pride as openly gay rockers. The lyrics are a playful and tongue-in-cheek declaration of their sexuality and their determination to be heard and accepted in the music industry. The chorus "We're the buttfuckers of rock & roll, we wanna sock it to your hole" is a bold and powerful statement of their sexuality, challenging the heteronormative norms of rock music. The song is also a call to arms for other LGBTQ+ individuals to be proud and fearless in their sexual expression.

The song also highlights the hypocrisy of closeted rockers who refuse to come out for fear of damaging their careers. The band makes it clear that they have no such reservations about their own sexuality and are unapologetic about their desire to sleep with men. The lyrics "We have no such deceptions, no such ploys, we make it clear we wanna sleep with boys" are a clear rejection of the double standards that exist in the music industry when it comes to LGBTQ+ representation.

Overall, Pansy Division's Anthem is a bold and celebratory declaration of LGBTQ+ pride and a call for greater acceptance and inclusivity in rock music.

I remember having this song and about 1000 other songs on my iPod back when I worked at a restaurant and I was allowed to play music as long as it wasn't too loud or explicit. I had the iPod on random play and my boss came to the back where I was and was standing right next to the speakers and I heard this song start up with "1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4" then the guitar riff started and I told my boss I needed to get by to turn the volume down on that song and since the restaurant was not crowded, instead of turning it down, he cranked it! He played the entire song at full blast and just laughed his ass off at it
