LUST
Pantheist Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

How I long for the tender flesh of the Virgin
For the subdued look in her eyes
When she starts to suspect that I'm the angel
Who is going to embrace her

I'm Jesus' father
And therefore God
Ignored by history
But not by fate

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Pantheist's song Lust describe the disturbing and controversial subject of sexual desires towards a virgin that is depicted as a religious figure. The opening line, "How I long for the tender flesh of the Virgin", immediately sets the tone of the song as one that deals with the objectification and fetishization of a woman who is pure and innocent. The second line, "For the subdued look in her eyes," suggests that the singer takes pleasure in the victim's vulnerability and their power over her. The lyrics "When she starts to suspect that I'm the angel Who is going to embrace her" hints at the use of deception to gain access and sexually experience the woman.

The following lines, "I'm Jesus' father And therefore God Ignored by history But not by fate", are equally menacing and can be interpreted in different ways. Some interpret the line "I'm Jesus' father" as a reference to Joseph, Jesus' putative father. However, the following line "And therefore God" gives a different layer of meaning to the phrase, implying that the singer sees themselves as an omnipotent figure with the power to do as they please. The final two lines "ignored by history but not by fate" may suggest a sense of frustration that they are not recognized for their power and achievements.
