Infants' Graves
Panzerchrist Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Infant' graves are steps of angels, where
Earth's brightest gems of innocence repose.
God is their parent, and they need no tear;
He takes them to His bosom from earth's woes,
A bud their lifetime and a flower their close.
Their spirits are an Iris of the skies,
Needing no prayers; a sunset's happy close.
Gone are the bright rays of their soft blue eyes;
Flowers weep in dew-drops oer them, and the gale gently sighs

Their lives were nothing but a sunny shower,
Melting on flowers as tears melt from the eye.
Their deaths were dew-drops on Heaven's amaranth bower,
And tolled on flowers as Summer gales went by.
They bowed and trembled, and they left no sigh,
And the sun smiled to show their end was well.
Infants have nought to weep for ere they die;
All prayers are needless, beads they need not tell,
White flowers their mourners are, Nature their passing bell.
Weep no more! Nor sigh, nor groan,
Sorrow calls no time that 's gone:
Violets pluck'd, the sweetest rain
Makes not fresh nor grow again.

Trim thy locks, look cheerfully;
Fate's hid ends eyes cannot see.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Panzerchrist's "Infants' Graves" paint a picture of innocent children who have passed away and are now resting in the arms of God. The first few lines describe how infant graves are steps to heaven, where earth's most innocent souls are laid to rest. The lyrics describe these children as bright gems of innocence that repose in God's bosom, where they need no tears, only love and comfort from their heavenly father.

The second verse goes on to describe how the lives of these children are like a sunny shower that melts away like tears from the eyes. Their deaths, like dew-drops on a flower, are a passing of their spirits to heaven, where they join the other angels. These infants lived for such a short time, but their souls were like the iris of the skies, never needing prayers or words to convey their love and light. The flowers that grow on their graves mourn them with dew-drops, while the wind gently whispers a song of peace.

The final verse of the song encourages us to let go of our mourning for these precious infants. Their passing was meant to be, and we can take solace in the fact that they are now resting in peace. We should not weep or sigh over their loss but instead cherish their memories with joy in our hearts. The lyrics implore us to be cheerful, to look forward to the future and to accept the will of fate that brought these angels back to heaven.
