Ser Amantes
Paquito Guzman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

No supe defender

Overall Meaning

In this song, Paquito Guzman describes the difficulties of being in a love affair that cannot be fully realized. He sets the scene of waking up early in the morning, in a different house, and hurrying to return before the sun comes up to his other bed. As he travels through the deserted city, he is filled with a sense of longing and regret, knowing that he and his lover cannot be together openly. He compares their relationship to a delicate paper flower, beautiful but fragile, and laments the fact that they cannot share their love without fear and hesitation.

The second verse is even more poignant, as Guzman speaks of his lover being with someone else, and his inability to hold on to her. He reflects on his own inability to fight for her, or to ask for the freedom he never had. The bitterness and sadness in his voice is palpable, as he describes himself wandering aimlessly through the city, with no fixed destination anymore. The chorus repeats the phrase "ser amantes" - to be lovers - with a sense of irony and futility, as if the very phrase captures the paradox of their love.
