I couldn't do it anymore
Told myself that I was fine
It was something that I'd just ignore
That I'd feel a weight lift up
The moment that I followed through
But I guess I fooled myself
Cause I never really wanted to
Oh I knew
That even if I kept you in the dark
It would never do
Because it only takes a spark
I'm standing in the pouring rain
I feel it like a hurricane
A photograph is all it takes
But I know I shouldn't let it
And the memory is rising fast
It's seeping in through every crack
Oh funny how it all comes back
When you're trying to forget it
Here comes the hurricane
Here comes the hurricane
Oh when I cut you off
It was something that I had to do
You can try to push it down
But it's always going to follow you
And yeah if you close your eyes
It doesn't mean you fell asleep
Oh and I could keep you out
But you're never really gonna leave
Oh I knew
Even if I kept you in the dark
It would never do
Because it only takes a spark
I'm standing in the pouring rain
I feel it like a hurricane
A photograph is all it takes
But I know I shouldn't let it
And the memory is rising fast
It's seeping in through every crack
Oh funny how it all comes back
When you're trying to forget it
Here comes the hurricane
Here comes the hurricane
Everybody knows I didn't want it to end
Everybody knows I didn't want it to end
I'm standing in the pouring rain
I feel it like a hurricane
A photograph is all it takes
But I know I shouldn't let it
And the memory is rising fast
It's seeping in through every crack
Oh funny how it all comes back
When you're trying to forget it
(I feel it like a hurricane)
Here comes the hurricane
(I feel it like a hurricane)
In Parachute's song "Hurricane," the lyrics seem to touch upon feelings of regret, loss, and the overwhelming impact that memories can have on an individual. The song's narrator admits to shutting someone out of their life and going "dry" in an attempt to avoid confronting their feelings. However, even though the singer tried to push their emotions aside, they find themselves in the middle of a metaphorical hurricane as memories come rushing back.
Throughout the song, the singer repeats "I'm standing in the pouring rain, I feel it like a hurricane, a photograph is all it takes." This line seems to suggest that a trigger, such as a photograph or memory, can bring about a surge of emotions, much like an oncoming storm. Despite the pain of remembering, the singer recognizes that it's impossible to simply ignore emotions and continue living as if everything is fine.
As the song progresses, the singer realizes that cutting someone out of their life may have been a mistake, as they acknowledge that the person they shut out will never truly be gone. The lyrics "I could keep you out, but you're never really gonna leave" shows that even if someone is not physically present in our lives, memories can continue to have a powerful influence.
Overall, "Hurricane" is a poignant and relatable song that shows the importance of confronting our emotions instead of trying to ignore or suppress them.

It was something that I'd just ignore
I chose to overlook the issues at hand

Not communicating with you wouldn't solve anything
It would never do
It wouldn't be effective

When I removed myself from your life
It was something that I had to do

"The memory is rising fast, it's seeping in through every crack. Oh funny how it all come back when you're trying to forget it." One of my favorite song lyrics ever. Will is such a beautiful lyricist...
@annam8635
I think the most notable line in the song is something always overlooked,
"Somebody tell me, tell me, what I'm feeling."
