Mess I Made
Parachute Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Should've kissed you there
I should've held your face
I should've watched those eyes
Instead of run in place
I should've called you out
I should've said your name
I should've turned around
I should've looked again

But ohh, I'm staring at the mess I made
I'm staring at the mess I made
I'm staring at the mess I made
As you turn, you take your heart and walk away

Should've held my ground
I could've been redeemed
For every second chance
That changed its mind on me,
I should've spoken up
I should've proudly claimed
That oh my head's to blame
For all my hearts mistakes

But oh, I'm staring at the mess I made
I'm staring at the mess I made
I'm staring at the mess I made
As you turn, you take your heart and walk away

And it's, you
And it's, you
And it's, you
And it's, you
And it's falling down
As you walk away
And it's on me now
As you go

But oh, I'm staring at the mess I made
I'm staring at the mess I made
I'm staring at the mess I made
As you turn, you take your heart and walk away

And it's falling down
As you walk away
And it's on me now
As you go

But oh, I'm staring at the mess I made
I'm staring at the mess I made

I'm staring at the mess I made
As you turn, you take your heart and walk away.

Overall Meaning

The song "The Mess I Made" by Parachute is a heartbreaking confession of how the singer regrets his actions in a past relationship. He wishes he had done things differently, like kissing the person and letting them know his feelings, instead of holding back and being afraid to express himself. The singer believes that if he had done those things, the relationship might have had a chance. The singer also realizes that he was too afraid to own up to his mistakes and take responsibility for his actions, and he was too focused on blaming himself for his past mistakes.

Throughout the song, the singer is "staring at the mess [he] made" and watching the person he cares about "walk away." This could be interpreted as regret and remorse for not doing what he knew deep down he should have done to save the relationship. The chorus repeats the same lines, emphasizing the regret and the inability to move past the mistake.

The bridge of the song brings a sense of urgency as the singer realizes that time is running out, and they may never have the chance to fix the mistakes they’ve made. The repetition of "it's on me now" shows that the singer has finally realized that he is responsible for the downfall of the relationship and that he must take action if he wants to save it before it's too late.

Overall, "The Mess I Made" is a powerful and emotional song that speaks to the heartache and regret that can come with failed relationships. The lyrics and melody work together to create a raw and authentic atmosphere that is relatable to anyone who has ever experienced heartbreak.

Sometimes it is better to have few people love you than a lot of people like you.

This song brings up so many memories. Not because I've experienced anything like that, but because I only listened to this song for a period of time because it's just so wonderful.

The thing about Parachute is that you can never get tired of their music. Most songs are so annoying because they have nothing that means something to people. I could listen to this song and never get tired of it. Parachute is beautiful and no one should deny that.
