Dev Pandya is a producer from the UK who has in recent years championed a new sub-genre of drum & bass known as drumfunk, which focuses on either finding obscure breakbeats or re-sampling much used drum & bass breakbeats from their original source and transforming them into a drum & bass tempo.
Paradox is most certainly a breakbeat pioneer with a production career that has spanned well into it’s second decade. Having first released back in 1990, he’s since released over 100 singles on every leading drum’n’bass label including Reinforced, Good Looking, and Metalheadz, in addition to his own imprints such as Paradox Music, Arctic, Esotic, and Outsider. In the last couple years his collaborations with good mate Seba, and vocalist Robert Manos have solidified this man’s reputation as not only a talented breaks master, but a gifted songwriter with mass-appeal as well.
Paradox is currently involved in two collaborations with artists outside of drum and bass with The artists Herbie Hancock (who has heavily influenced much of his early work) and Carlos Santana.

Riptide
Paradox Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I don't care about me
I'm in a state of nothingness
A state of legality
Where love is lust and life is blood
And soberness insanity
And ocean of hate and waves of lies
Brutal profanity
Thrashed around astray
The more you preach the less you teach
All I learn is lies
The more you think the less I conceive
Ignorance must arise
Thrashed around astray
Toss it all away
Riptide - tearing me down
Riptide - tossing me around
Riptide - pulling me under
Riptide - like rolling thunder
I don't need a government
Or laws and jurisdiction
I'm my best and only friend
Charity is insane fiction
Follow me I know what best
For those who seek tranquility
No politics or ethic tricks
Salvation is stupidity
In Paradox's song Riptide, the lyrics express a nihilistic and rebellious attitude towards society and its prescribed values. The singer rejects both individuality and collectivism, refusing to care about himself or others. He is in a state of "nothingness" and "legality", suggesting a despondent, bored existence within the constraints of the law. The singer sees love as lust and life as blood, indicating a rejection of romanticism and the idea of a higher purpose. Instead, he perceives hate and lies, which he considers to be brutal profanity. Thrashed around astray and tossed around, it seems as if he is going through a tumultuous period, further driven by his rejection of societal norms.
The singer further denounces authoritative figures when he proclaims that laws, jurisdiction, and the government are not required. He only trusts himself, seeing charity as madness. He is confident that he knows what is best for those who seek tranquility, rejecting both politics and ethics. The singer sees salvation as idiocy, suggesting a disbelief in the concept of an afterlife or an ultimate goal. Throughout the lyrics, the singer is rejecting the common belief systems of society and advocating for a nihilistic, individualistic, and anarchic world view.
