Brick by Boring Brick
Paramore Lyrics

Well, she lives in a fairy tale
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of a world that she's left behind
"It's all about the exposure the, lens," I told her
The angles were all wrong now
She's ripping wings off of butterflies
Keep your feet on the ground
When your head's in the clouds

Well, go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle

Ba-da-ba-ba-da-ba-ba-da

So one day he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick
And the clock struck twelve
Well, make sure to build your home brick by boring brick
Or the wolf's gonna blow it down
Keep your feet on the ground
When your head's in the clouds

Well, go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
We'll bury the castle, bury the castle

Whoa, whoa
Whoa, whoa, whoa

Well, you built up a world of magic
Because your real life is tragic
Yeah, you built up a world of magic

Well, if it's not real
You can't hold it in your hand
You can't feel it with your heart
And I won't believe it
But if it's true
You can see it with your eyes
Oh, even in the dark
And that's where I want to be, yeah

Go get your shovel (you'll be better)
We'll dig a deep hole (off without me now)
To bury the castle, bury the castle (ooh)
Go get your shovel (you'll be better)
We'll dig a deep hole (off without me now)
To bury the castle, bury the castle (ooh)

Ba-da-ba-ba-da-ba-ba-da
Ba-da-ba-ba-da-ba-ba
Ba-da-ba-ba-da-ba-ba-da
Ba-da-ba-ba-da-ba-ba (ba)

Ba-da-ba-ba-da-ba-ba-da
Ba-da-ba-ba-da-ba-ba

Ba-da-ba-ba-da-ba-ba-da
Ba-da-ba-ba-ba, ba-ba-ba-ba

Overall Meaning

Paramore’s “Brick by Boring Brick” is a song about growing up and the pressure to conform to society’s expectations. The song starts by describing a girl who lives in a fairy tale world that is too far for us to find. She has forgotten what the real world is like due to being caught up in her own world of fantasy. The girl is told that life is not just about appearances and that the angles she is using are not correct. This leads to her being disillusioned and she ends up ripping wings off of butterflies.

The chorus of the song talks about burying the castle, which represents the fairy tale world that the girl has created. It is a metaphor for letting go of what is not real and facing the harsh reality of life. This is reinforced when the song talks about building a home brick by boring brick, meaning that the real world is not always exciting, but it is necessary to build a strong foundation.

The second verse of the song talks about a prince coming to save the girl, but it turns out to be a trick. The clock striking twelve is a reference to Cinderella, and this reinforces the idea that fairy tales are not real. The song ends by stating that if something is true, you can see it with your eyes, even in the dark. It encourages the listener to let go of fantasy and embrace the truth.

Emily Marcin You are insightful. This is much like the video "Katy Perry - Wide Awake". There are many of the same elements,

- Smaller 'Katy Perry'
- Butterfly symbolism
- Fracturing
- Dissociation
- Alice in wonderland references
- Countless mirrors
- "illumination"
- bad "men"
- Little girl disappearing at the end.

This crap everywhere. I am glad there are more people out there that can see it for what it is.
