Turn It Off
Paramore Lyrics
I scraped my knees while I was praying
And found a demon in my safest haven, seems like
It's getting harder to believe in anything
Then just to get lost in all my selfish thoughts
I wanna know what it'd be like
To find perfection in my pride
To see nothing in the light
I'll turn it off
In all my spite
In all my spite
And the worst part is
Before it gets any better
We're headed for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom
The tragedy, it seems unending
I'm watching everyone I looked up to break and bending
We're taking shortcuts and false solutions
Just to come out the hero
Well I can see behind the curtain (I can see, yeah yeah)
The wheels are cranking, turning, so on the way we're working
Towards a goal, that's non existent
It's not existent, but we just keep believing
And the worst part is
Before it gets any better
We're headed for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom
I wanna know what it'd be like
To find perfection in my pride
To see nothing in the light
I'll turn it off
In all my spite
In all my spite
I'll turn it off
Just turn it off
Again
Again
And the worst part is
Before it gets any better
We're headed for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom
And the worst part is
Before it gets any better
We're headed for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom

[Verse 1]
I scraped my knees while I was praying
And found a demon in my safest haven, seems like
It's getting harder to believe in anything
Than just to get lost in all my selfish thoughts
[Pre-Chorus]
I wanna know what it'd be like
To find perfection in my pride
To see nothing in the light
I'll turn it off
In all my spite
In all my spite
I'll turn it off
[Chorus]
And the worst part is
Before it gets any better
We're headed for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom
[Verse 2]
The tragedy, it seems unending
I'm watching everyone I looked up to break and bending
We're taking shortcuts and false solutions
Just to come out the hero
[Pre-Chorus]
Well, I can see behind the curtain (I can see, yeah yeah)
The wheels are cranking, turning
It's all wrong the way we're working
Towards a goal that's non existent
It's non existent, but we just keep believing
[Chorus]
And the worst part is
Before it gets any better
We're headed for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom
[Bridge]
I wanna know what it'd be like
To find perfection in my pride
To see nothing in the light
I'll turn it off
In all my spite
In all my spite
I'll turn it off
Just turn it off
Again
Again, again
[Chorus]
And the worst part is
Before it gets any better
We're headed for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom
And the worst part is
Before it gets any better
We're headed for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom

This song is so relatable it's not even funny.
"And the worst part is, before it gets any better we're headed for a cliff...
And in the free fall I, will realise I'm better off when I hit the bottom" <3

7 years later still true 😭😭

@kermit the frog Yes, you already said that. I knew that, they have other songs with similar topics as well. That's why I said "yes indeed". Then I added validation to other interpretations of the song.

@kermit the frog Yes indeed, but the magic of paramore (and art in general) is that it can be understood in more than one way. Depends on who's looking and in what stage of their life. Like me right now, walking through tough relationship problems that I feel like "the tragedy seems unending", "taking false solutions", that "I found the demon in my safest heaven", etc.

@Icu2_999_hotel_hotel, no. A blatant rip off is Levitating (Dua Lipa) and Live Your Life (Artikal Sound System). The chord progression of Turn it Off is only slightly similar to Verve Pipe's The Freshman - but these are completely different songs in terms of tempo, melodies, and rhythm. The harmonies are a bit similar on some parts, but nothing enough to call it even as an influence - let alone a "rip off".
I've found more similarities between Radiohead's HIgh and Dry (1995) and Verve Pipe's The Freshman (1996) than with Paramore. Look at the guitar riff of The Freshman at 1:53 and compare it with High and Dry at 2:49 - almost identical. But, again, this does not make The Freshman a "copy" of High and Dry - just a similar guitar riff, but no more than that.
I believe you should look more carefully the definition of "rip off" in music.

Did anyone else ever have that realization that Paramore wasn't just a phase?
michael rodriguez
Still not a phase, but a lifestyle. I just recently lost 3 people this year that were very special to me but songs like this and paramore as a whole keeps me going. They help me hold everything together. I would break without their music. I do it for them, as much as I want to give up I keep going. I'm better off when I hit the bottom 🎵

I don’t call anything I like a phase and still with them another 6 years later
