2. Parka are a Scottish indie-electro-dance-pop band from Glasgow, now based in Whitchapel, London. They formed in Feb 2005 when singer/guitarist Matty Thompson grew tired of his studies and decided to make a band, by finding drummer, Neil Johnson, bassist Ian Alexander, keyboardist Mark Hedges and saxaphonist Bob.
In September 2006 they released their debut single Disco Dancer, complete with balloon video, through the 7" label Worst Case Scenario. This took many by surprise; winning Fresh Meat on zane lowe's Radio 1 show and getting playlisted on Xfm. Parka then went from strength to strength touring with Boy Kill Boy, opening for The Automatic and signing to indie label Jeepster.
Shortly after this, saxaphonist Bob departed the band to be replaced by James Craise.
Parka's second single If You Wanna was released in April 2007, reaching #11 on the indie chart and being playlisted on both Mtv2 and Xfm. Meanwhile the band were getting more notable support slots with artists such as Switches, The Young Knives and The Enemy; as well as doing their own headline tour.
Parka recorded their debut album in the summer of 2007, shortly after which saxophonist James departed the band, to be replaced by Steven Jarvis.
Disco Dancer was rereleased in January 2008 and became Alex Zane's single of the week. It received numerous plays on the Zane Lowe show and reached the daily playlist on Xfm Scotland.
Better Anyway was to be the next release in April 2008, soon to be followed in May by debut album Attack of the Hundred Yard Hardman.

Nevertheless the Parkans always come together to write songs and practice on there ‘root ground’ of Stellingwerf.

Another distant sound.
You're dragging up you're past, make it last, this one more chance.
Before you're gonna settle down (woah oh oh oh woah oh oh oh)
Show me where to sign, on the line, you rhyme and then,
You've got nowt to say.
You're dragging up your past, make a chance, hit the dance
It's your last chance before you fade away. (woah oh oh oh woah oh oh oh)
Disco Dancer, Disco Dancer,
I wanna dance with you.
Disco Dancer, Disco Dancer,
I wanna dance with you
(woah oh oh oh, woah oh oh oh, woah)
So tell me to stop, to flop, to drop,
You're another crazy sound.
And then you drag, your past, your chance, you're last.
You know its cos you're gonna settle down. (woah oh oh oh woah oh oh oh)
Disco Dancer, Disco Dancer,
I wanna dance with you
(woah oh oh oh woah oh oh oh woah)
In "Disco Dancer," Parka sings about a person who's facing a crossroads in their life. The lyrics ask the listener to make a decision—to either settle down and fade away or to make one more chance and hit the dance floor. The first verse talks about someone who's reaching the top, but once they get there, they drop and they become another distant sound. They're dragging up their past, but they're given one more chance to make it last before settling down. The chorus repeats the phrase "Disco Dancer" over and over, emphasizing the desire to dance with someone and the idea that the disco is a place where someone can escape and forget about their problems.
The second verse repeats the same structure as the first verse, but it emphasizes the idea that the person has one last chance before they fade away. The phrase "woah oh oh oh" is repeated frequently throughout the lyrics, creating an infectious, upbeat melody that's reminiscent of the disco era.
