For the longest time, there's been a lot of talk about sexual abuse commited by fathers and stepfathers; but little to no talk about the epidemic of psychological abuse a lot of mothers inflict their kids to. Too much manipulation, too much coercion, which always impacts these kids growth (with many cases leading to self-harm or suicidal tendencies). Abusive mothers using materialistic presents as a form of compensation is also a very common approach in these cases.

This is way too common, and I've seen it firsthand more times I can count. I didn't realize how massive this was until I started finding cases all over the world, all with the same characteristics. The passive-aggressive demeanor of this woman will be very familiar for many.

To clarify this: when someone winds you up on purpose, saying things they know will hurt that aren’t obvious to the outside, to force you to snap so they can look like the victim, they’re doing reactive abuse to you. What she’s trying to get most people to think is “oh she was calm and he was yelling so therefore he’s being mean to her, therefore he’s the abusive one.” It’s extremely subtle and insidious.

Something about this video brings me back to a lot of things I remember from my own childhood. I never knew how bad it affected me until I became an adult. Your upbringing affects everything... the way you see the world, the way you love, attachment styles, your ability to feel safe, the way you treat others and how you allow others to treat you. Using your child as an object to hurt your ex, physical altercations, being choked out, not being allowed to walk away and being a prisoner somewhere that should have been the safest place in the whole world? That's toxic as all hell. Even now as an adult, a lot of that happened to me some 30 years ago, and now with my mom in end stage renal failure, my dad with less than 40% of his heart, one of my little brothers in the ground, another sick as hell, and two other siblings that are still coping with the environment they still have to live in that are not mentally sound. I cant believe I had to endure all of that. Becoming an adult is realizing your parents are human and sometimes they make poor choices, but its also understanding what they did was not okay and figuring out how to heal those wounds.

I may have not been in his situation but I remember growing up in a verbal and emotional abuse environment I took a lot of beatings and never realizing it was the right way to be raised when I got older, I’m still trying to trust people but I am afraid of getting hurt cause of all trauma I went through. All I can say is I know the feeling of being afraid I’ve been there. I somewhat have forgiven my parents but I still have dreams about people controlling me as and adult. I hope you get a few minutes to read this. I've seen this whole video at least 3 times now, over the course of 10 years. Back when you put this up, I was beginning to feel the same way as your son but had no recourse, as my parents were together. Now, years later, though I'm older, no longer Parker's age, and have been moved out for a few years, it finally happened and I'm now going through very troubling and heartwrenching experiences with my family basically splitting into two factions, for very similar reasons to why Parker wanted to get away, including family history that goes back to when I was 12. It's incredibly relatable. As painful as it is to see this video once again -- and makes me tear up more than before -- I take such solace and satisfaction in the way that he was able to accomplish what I wanted to do myself all those years ago. Very well executed, at that, which you also had a big part in. It got me wondering how my life could've been different, and if maybe our family could've gotten through it easier and eventually healed. I really hope you and your son, and family in general, are doing better now. Thank you very much for keeping this video up as I'm positive it helps many people like myself and your son navigate their situations and emotionally heal, even if only a little bit.

With that said, and it's not information you ought to give me If you don't want to for any reason, would you mind giving me (or the community) an update as to how Parker & the whole family are doing now? I'm curious and hopeful all is better, but would especially like to have some insight to inform myself on how to go about my own current situation. Thanks again.

The kid is smarter than his parents, and the entire crap teens don't like their parents etc. is biologically normal. In the west we literally just started parenting teenagers when they use to be independent for thousands of years since caveman times. I mean we basically have disrupted our own evolution on how it wants us to grow up. By the pre-teens a part in the brain where we see our parents as omniscient and rely on them for everything is gone. Probably something to do with puberty starting but it happens. In all mammalian species the adolescent stays for a while, so either the adolescent noves on away from the parents or the parent is staying away from their offspring to enforce independence on their offspring. And here's another thing after one is done with puberty which varies from mid to late teens on average, they are biologically adults. This is before 18 at 18 or after, heck it can be in the early twenties.

The adult brain is another story. The current theory about adolescents and young adults and why they take risks is because it's an evolutionary design to find and attract mates. Imagine this, caveman times, Mr. 18yo male over there has been kicked out of his tribe or pack to prevent inbreeding, his brain is 50% complete in the pfc, he's still impulsive, he's faceing a challenge now, he sees plenty of developed females with another male(s). He challenges a male who is older than him for his mate, this male is in his mid twenties, this male is wiser and maybe stronger. The 18yo is going to do impulsive things to win and rise through the ranks to gain this males assests. It's an advantage for the 18yo to take risks to epearn rewards. I can show links if you want to back this all up.

A 14yo male is near formal operations which is 15 or 16 for male braons. This is when the intellect matures out in the PFC to make informed decisions, the limbic system tho develops much faster than the PFC, so the emotions are haywired. This is where pleasure fight or flight and other adult emotions come from, basically the amygdala that is part of the limbic system is a car accelerator, the PFC is the brake that is still a major wip. Thhe amygdala hjacks the pfc and makes it harder for teens to think in the moment. It's not impossible just very difficult.

Honestly it’s fine if a parent calls a step parent their child’s mom/dad. But if it makes the child uncomfortable, then the child or biological parent needs to say something. And it would be respectful to ask the child first. For example, I talked with my mom, and I call my step dad by his first name. It makes me comfortable, and it makes them pleased to see me happy

You're right. I was abused in my household as well and I knew I was gonna getting a beating when my mother made the same look Parker's mother and stepfather are making.
