It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I'd never dream that I'd meet somebody like you
I'd never dream that I'd lose somebody like you
And I don't want to fall in love
No, I don't want to fall in love
With you
What a wicked thing to do, to let me dream of you
What a wicked thing to say you never felt this way
What a wicked thing to do, to make me dream of you
No, I don't want to fall in love
No, I don't want to fall in love
With you, with you
And I don't want to fall in love
No, I don't want to fall in love
With you
With you
The lyrics to "Wicked Games" describe a complex scenario in which the singer is struggling with their feelings of desire for someone who has hurt them. The first stanza sets the stage, painting a picture of a world on fire and no relief in sight. The singer then confesses that it is the person they are addressing who has been their savior in the midst of the chaos. The lyrics go on to describe the power of desire and the foolish actions it can inspire in people. The singer admits they never imagined they would meet someone like this person, but they have and the loss of them would be devastating.
The chorus of the song explicitly states the singer's desire not to fall in love with the other person. They describe the other person's behavior as wicked and point out that they have been played. The second verse repeats this theme, highlighting the torment the singer is experiencing. The final chorus simply repeats the first, driving home the message that the singer is fighting their feelings and refusing to succumb to the lures of desire.
