STRONGER
Parsonsfield Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When you were mine
And I was yours
When both of our keys
Opened up the same door
There was love in our hearts
And our clothes on the floor
Love used to be fun
It became such a chore
And the sky turn black
When we spoke of the doubt
That lives in our hearts
And escape somehow
And I thought I could too
If I figured out how
But like your punching bag
I kept hanging around

I only wish
You could see
What I've became
Since you left me

Convictions built
Upon shifting sands
But your eyes were adrift
Beyond only one man
And I stiffened my lip
When I saw your true hand
Til I felt just how cruel
Your cold blood ran
And I bit my own tongue
Just to see if I'd bleed
I said don't mind the blood
It's just my heart on my sleeve

I only wish
You could see
What I've became
Since you left me

I've been strong, strong
Strong since you've gone
I've been strong, strong
Strong since you've gone

When you were mine
And I was yours

When both of our keys
Opened up the same door

Overall Meaning

In the song "Stronger" by Parsonsfield, the lyrics depict a story of a relationship that used to be full of love and passion, but unfortunately turned into a burdened routine. The first stanza reminisces the time when both partners shared love with each other, and their clothes used to lay on the floor. However, love became a chore for them, and they began to doubt themselves. The singer compared himself to a punching bag in the second verse, suggesting that he kept hanging around despite being treated poorly.

The chorus "I've been strong, strong, strong since you've gone" implies the story is about a breakup, and even though the singer misses their ex-partner, they are stronger and better after the split. The third verse features a shift in the singer's attitude, referring to the shifting sands of conviction. The singer realized the partner's true nature but was still hopeful to make their relationship work. The last line of the verse "just to see if I'd bleed/I said don't mind the blood/It's just my heart on my sleeve" gives the impression of feeling powerless to change the situation.

In conclusion, the song "Stronger" by Parsonsfield reflects on the end of a relationship and how the singer emerges stronger and more resilient after it. The lyrics describe how love can evolve into a burden and how it is necessary to walk away from a relationship even when it is painful.

Line by Line Meaning

When you were mine
At the time when we were together and in love

And I was yours
We had each other and were committed to our relationship

When both of our keys
We shared something special

Opened up the same door
And had access to the same things

There was love in our hearts
We felt love and affection for each other

And our clothes on the floor
We were comfortable and intimate with each other

Love used to be fun
Our relationship was enjoyable and exciting

It became such a chore
Over time, maintaining the relationship felt like a burden and was not as fulfilling

And the sky turn black
Our conversations turned towards doubt and negativity

When we spoke of the doubt
When we discussed our concerns and uncertainties

That lives in our hearts
That we kept within ourselves and did not share

And escape somehow
We both looked for ways to leave the relationship

And I thought I could too
I believed that I could leave just like you

If I figured out how
If I could only find a way to make it happen

But like your punching bag
I kept sticking around and taking the emotional blows

I kept hanging around
Because I wasn't strong enough to leave and move on

I only wish
Now that we are apart, I cannot help but wish

You could see
That you could understand and appreciate

What I've became
How much I've grown and developed as a person

Since you left me
Since you ended our relationship

Convictions built
I had strong beliefs and principles

Upon shifting sands
But they were unstable and unreliable

But your eyes were adrift
You were not committed and loyal to me

Beyond only one man
And were open and attracted to other men

And I stiffened my lip
I tried to control my emotions and not show how hurt I was

When I saw your true hand
When I realized your true intentions and feelings

Til I felt just how cruel
And then I experienced how harsh and unkind you could be

Your cold blood ran
You were indifferent and unsympathetic

And I bit my own tongue
I kept silent and did not express my feelings

Just to see if I'd bleed
To test if I was still affected by your actions

I said don't mind the blood
I pretended that the pain didn't matter

It's just my heart on my sleeve
When in reality, my emotions were exposed and raw

I've been strong, strong
I have developed a strength within me

Strong since you've gone
Ever since you left me, I have become stronger and more resilient

I feel in love with them when they came to the Philadelphia Folk Festival about 2-3 years ago. I love how they used their cellphones for the lyrics it’s very very unique I highly doubt I’ll see another video like this again

Oh my, I fear one of my favorite bands is about to explode! I'm being selfish, I know it! Keep it real with the banjo & mandolin... You guys are sick with talent and it can't stay a secret forever...Can't wait to see y'all in San Fran in October! If I can hear Anita live I'll flip out happy pill!

@Necrapocalypse

Truly a music video for our times.

In seriousness, I like it as a metaphor for the obsession over each other making them miss the world around them, even if it doesn't make for a particularly engaging video to watch.

@JohnSmithPlaysGames

I am definitely looking forward to hearing the rest of the songs on this album :D

And I bit my own tongue // just to see if it'd bleed // I said don't mind the blood // it's just my heart on my sleeve - What a lyric!!! And that's not only coming from the fact that it ties in with my last name! Genius stuff there.

@LauraAwesome
