La canción del pirata
Pasión Vega Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yo sigo yendo a altamar

Overall Meaning

In Pasión Vega's song La canción del pirata, the lyrics speak about a person who has grown older, but still feels like the captain of their own ship, even though everything else seems to have sunk. The singer reminisces about a time when they were in love and compares their lover to their navigator. The singer's father disapproves of the relationship and refers to their loved one as a corsair. The singer feels like a pirate who is hiding in the shadows and peering out from the cannons at noon, yearning for the missing flag on their life's frigate.

The singer describes a time when their loved one sailed away on a catamaran wearing a mermaid's outfit. In contrast, the singer continues to set sail despite the storms that come their way. The singer then remembers a moment when their loved one tried to find an island for them, with palm trees and peace. However, the singer rejects the offer, saying that the desert-like landscape is not for them. The song ends with the line "making paper boats, the years flew by," pointing out how quickly time goes by but how the memories never truly fade away.
