She was born in the neighborhood of Greenpoint in Brooklyn, New York City, New York on January 10, 1953 as Patricia Andrzejewski. She graduated from Lindenhurst High on Long Island in 1971. She married her lead guitarist, Neil "Spyder" Geraldo, in 1982, and she has two children, named Haley and Hana.
In 1973, Benatar quit her job as a bank teller to pursue a singing career after being inspired by a Liza Minnelli concert she saw in Richmond. She got a job as a singing waitress at a flapper-esque nightclub named "The Roaring Twenties", and got a gig singing in lounge band Coxon's Army. They garnered enough attention to be the subject of a never-aired PBS special, and the band's bassist, Roger Capps, would go on to be the original bass player for the Pat Benatar band.
This period also yielded Benatar's first solo single β 1974's "Day Gig" β until her eventual major label debut on Chrysalis Records in 1979. The song was released via Trace Records, and was both written and produced by Coxon's Army band leader Phil Coxon.
Benatar's big break came in 1975 at an amateur night at the comedy club "Catch a Rising Star" in New York City. Her rousing rendition of Judy Garland's "Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody" earned her a call back by club owner Rick Newman, who would later become her manager.
After many years of producing big budget albums, Neil and Pat have continued to produce albums together, even though they have decided to end their association with major labels. They have chosen instead to place the care of their children above industry demands, and make records at home in their own professional quality studio. Each summer when their girls get out of school for vacation, they all pack up, board a tour bus, and set out to play as many shows as they can fit into the summer months. Pat and Neil maintain a close, and much more personal, relationship with their fans, than they were able to do in 80's during the heights of their commercial success.

Out-A-Touch
Pat Benatar Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I pulled the trigger right at you on billboards and movie screens
When I talk it's to myself, 'cause I know your kind just like everyone else
Maybe it'll work itself out in time, before I lose my mind
You, you're out-a-touch, all alone in the danger zone and I think too much
You're out-a-touch
You're not so invincible and I'm not what I might seem
When I look it's in your eyes, and I know your look, you can hypnotize
How long does it have to last like this, a Kodachrome kiss
You, you're out-a-touch, all alone in the danger zone and I think too much
You, you're out-a-touch
You're in my sight all through the night and I see too much
You're out-a-touch
Can't you see I'm obsessed, I'd do anything, I'm possessed
I'm in a constant rage with preliminary stage, I need you, I need you
I've seen your picture in the paper, on the front page of magazines
I pulled the trigger right at you on Billboards movie screens
When I look it's in your eyes, and I know your look, you can hypnotize
How long does it have to last like this, a Kodachrome kiss
You, you're out-a-touch, all alone in the danger zone and I think too much
You're out-a-touch
I need you, I need you, I need you, I need you
I need you, I need you, I need you, I need you
In Pat Benatar's song "Out-A-Touch," the singer expresses her obsession and intense infatuation with someone who seems to be a celebrity or public figure. She has seen their picture in magazines, on billboards, and in movies, and feels that she knows their kind just like everyone else. However, her feelings for this person are not reciprocated, and she is left feeling alone in a "danger zone" of her own making. She struggles with her obsession, but cannot seem to shake it, as she keeps their letters near the mirror and dreams about them constantly. The singer is aware of her own state of mind and worries that she will lose it if things do not work themselves out.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "you're out-a-touch," which can be interpreted in a few different ways. It could mean that the person the singer is infatuated with is so far removed from her world that they cannot understand her feelings for them. It could also mean that the singer herself is "out-a-touch" with reality, as her obsession has consumed her to the point where she cannot see things clearly.
Overall, "Out-A-Touch" is a song about obsession and the toll it can take on a person's mental health. The singer is caught in a cycle of longing and despair, unable to let go of her feelings for someone who does not feel the same way.
