She was born in the neighborhood of Greenpoint in Brooklyn, New York City, New York on January 10, 1953 as Patricia Andrzejewski. She graduated from Lindenhurst High on Long Island in 1971. She married her lead guitarist, Neil "Spyder" Geraldo, in 1982, and she has two children, named Haley and Hana.
In 1973, Benatar quit her job as a bank teller to pursue a singing career after being inspired by a Liza Minnelli concert she saw in Richmond. She got a job as a singing waitress at a flapper-esque nightclub named "The Roaring Twenties", and got a gig singing in lounge band Coxon's Army. They garnered enough attention to be the subject of a never-aired PBS special, and the band's bassist, Roger Capps, would go on to be the original bass player for the Pat Benatar band.
This period also yielded Benatar's first solo single – 1974's "Day Gig" – until her eventual major label debut on Chrysalis Records in 1979. The song was released via Trace Records, and was both written and produced by Coxon's Army band leader Phil Coxon.
Benatar's big break came in 1975 at an amateur night at the comedy club "Catch a Rising Star" in New York City. Her rousing rendition of Judy Garland's "Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody" earned her a call back by club owner Rick Newman, who would later become her manager.
After many years of producing big budget albums, Neil and Pat have continued to produce albums together, even though they have decided to end their association with major labels. They have chosen instead to place the care of their children above industry demands, and make records at home in their own professional quality studio. Each summer when their girls get out of school for vacation, they all pack up, board a tour bus, and set out to play as many shows as they can fit into the summer months. Pat and Neil maintain a close, and much more personal, relationship with their fans, than they were able to do in 80's during the heights of their commercial success.

You & I
Pat Benatar Lyrics

Are you thinking about me?
Did you ever wonder how should I feel?
Close your eyes now and picture me there
You can push us aside, you can tear us apart
But it doesn't change the way that I feel
Close your eyes now and you'll see me there
By your side, so wrong, so right
But nothin' matters more than you and I
One in a million, two of a kind
You & I
It was all we could stand
it was heaven and hell
It was everything and nothing together
Maybe some things are just meant to be
What they are, so close, so far
We make our choices, as time goes by
But nothin' matters more than you and I
One in a million, two of a kind
You & I
You know I love you
I want you, but what can I do?
Can't fight this feelin'
I just can't go on without you
Baby I want you
Are you lonely tonight?
Are you thinking about me?
Did you ever wonder how should I feel?
Maybe somethings are just meant to be - yeh
We make our choices, as time goes by
But nothin' matters more than you and I
One in a million, two of a kind
We make our choices, as time goes by
But nothin' matters more than you and I
One in a million, two of a kind
You & I
We make our choices
But nothin' matters
Only You & I
The lyrics in Pat Benatar's song You & I are talking about a love that never fades. The song is a declaration of love from one person to another. It is a question of whether the person is thinking about their significant other, and whether that person has ever thought about how they feel. The lyrics encourage the listener to close their eyes and imagine the person they love right there with them. While there may be difficulties and challenges, it won't change the way either person feels about the other.
The second verse goes on to talk about how the relationship between the two has been everything and nothing, heaven and hell. It's a paradoxical statement because it's so much to them, but it's also nothing without each other. The lyrics suggest that the two are meant to be together, even if it seems difficult at times.
Ultimately, the lyrics talk about how nothing else matters more than the two of them. They are one in a million, two of a kind, and they make choices as time goes by, but nothing matters more than being together. The song is about the strength of love and the power that it holds over people. It's about how loving someone can be one of the most defining things in your life.
