Pedro Navaja
Patio De Los Reyes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Quien a hierro mata a hierro termina

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Patio De Los Reyes' Pedro Navaja describe a street-wise gangster named Pedro Navaja as he strolls through the old neighborhood with a swagger in his walk. His hands are always in his coat pockets to hide the knife that he carries. He wears a wide-brimmed hat, side-laced shoes, dark glasses, and has a golden tooth that glints when he laughs. He encounters a desperate prostitute who is repeatedly walking back and forth along the same block, hoping to attract customers. She takes refuge in a doorway to take a swig from a bottle, trying to forget her woes.

As the scene is set, a slow-moving car approaches. Although there are no markings, everyone knows it is the police. Pedro Navaja sees the car and looks pleased, smiling broadly and the gold tooth flashes. He starts singing an off-key refrain about life's surprises, as the prostitute takes a swig from her bottle, and the police car passes by.

The song tells a story about the dangers of living a life of crime and the consequences of the actions that one takes. It reflects on how one's actions will always catch up with them in the end, and the message advises the listener to be wary of these surprises that life throws at us.
