He first began recording in 1982 regularly teaming up with Ranking Roger of The Beat (sometimes referred to outside the UK as The English Beat). Pato also appeared as a guest artist on UB40's 1985 album "Baggariddim".
His solo debut was 1987's "Never Give In". An EP entitled "Visions Of The World" followed in 1988, and in 1990 came "Wize Up (No Compromise)" which featured a cover of The Police's "Spirits In The Material World".
Throughout this time, Banton continued to be known only in reggae circles and it was not until 1994's collaboration with Robin and Ali Campbell of UB40 on "Baby Come Back" that Pato thrust himself into the mainstream. He followed this with a string of hits including "Bubbling Hot" (teaming up with Ranking Roger again), "Groovin", a re-issue of "Spirits in the material world" and a guest appearance on a remixed and re-released version of Sting's "This Cowboy Song".
Following his brief period of mainstream success, Pato returned to his reggae roots and has since released 3 more albums. He continues to be much loved and currently tours in America and all over the world.
Tudo de Bom
Pato Banton Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I have come to the conclusion
the only way to change the situation
is to turn to the father of creation.
A little time of meditation
to generate some motivation
and then we'll go all around the nation
spreading Jah positive vibration.
Tudo de bom, tudo de bom
tudo de bom, tudo de bom
and everything is all right.
Num mundo de tanta confusão
já cheguei a conclusão
para mudar a situacão
vamos ao Pai da criacão.
Um pouco de meditacão
para gerar motivacão
sair por toda essa nacão
levando Jah à sua vibracão.
Tudo de bom! And everything is alright.
Tudo de bom! So we no bother we no fuss or fight.
Tudo de bom! We come together and we all unite.
Tudo de bom! And everything is gonna be alright.
Tudo de bom! Everybody come listen to me.
Tudo de bom! Listen good and listen keenly.
Tudo de bom! Me giving prays to the almighty.
Tudo de bom! For my brazilian friends also family.
What the world needs now, is love sweet love
no, not just for some, but for everyone.
O que o mundo quer agora, é amor doce amor
não, não só pra uns, mas pra tudos.
The lyrics to Pato Banton's song Tudo De Bom touch on the current state of the world, with a lot of confusion and chaos happening all around. The singer has come to the conclusion that there is only one way to change the situation, and that is by turning to the father of creation. He suggests taking some time to meditate which will result in motivation to go around the nation, spreading Jah positive vibration. Jah is a term that is often used in Rastafarian culture, referring to God or a higher power. The phrase "Tudo de bom" is repeated throughout the song, meaning "Everything is all right."
The song encourages listeners to come together and unite, with the common goal of spreading positivity through love and meditation. The line "What the world needs now, is love sweet love" emphasizes the need for love to be the driving force behind change. The Portuguese translation, "O que o mundo quer agora, é amor doce amor" has the same message, stating that the world needs love not just for some, but for everyone.
Overall, the lyrics promote a message of hope and positivity in a world plagued by confusion and turmoil. It encourages listeners to take action towards making the world a better place, beginning with meditation and spreading love and positive energy.
