Dans une écharpe de laine
Jeté les fleurs
Des vases de porcelaine
Il va couler bien des jours
Sous le pont de notre amour
Sans que je puisse t'oubier
Des rideaux gris aux fenêtres
Et j'ai brûlé
Nos photos et tes lettres
L'amour est-il si pressé
De toujours vouloir s'en aller
Dites-moi si vous savez
Où s'en vont les coeurs brisés
Quand ils ont fini d aimer
Même si le temps passe
Rien ne te remplace
Mais saurons-nous un jour
Où donc la vie les emporte
Toutes ces amours mortes
Mais certains soirs
Malgré tout je te regrette
Et je me dis
Qu'il reste une chance, peut-être
Il a coulé bien des jours
Sous le pont de notre amour
Sans que je puisse t'oublier
Puisqu'au fond les coeurs brisés
N'ont jamais fini d aimer.
Même si le temps passe
Rien ne te remplace
Mais saurons-nous un jour
Où donc la vie les emporte
Toutes ces amours mortes
The lyrics of Patricia Kaas's song Cœurs brisés express the hurt and sadness of a broken heart. The singer describes how she has packed away the symbols of her love, such as flowers and photos, and put up gray curtains to hide her sorrow. She wonders if love is always so fleeting and asks where broken hearts go when they are done loving. She admits that even though time passes, no one else can replace the one who has left, and she sometimes still feels regret and holds onto hope for a reconciliation.
The imagery in the lyrics conveys a sense of finality and loss. The reference to the bridge suggests that the relationship has been left behind, and the idea of "dead loves" emphasizes the idea that love, like life, is temporary. The phrase "hearts never finished loving" suggests that even after a relationship ends, the love remains, even if it has turned into a painful memory.
The overall message of the song is about the difficulty of letting go of a past love, and the underlying question of where broken hearts go when they are done loving. The singer acknowledges that the pain of a broken heart never truly goes away, but that life goes on and perhaps there is hope for love again in the future.
