Ceux Qui N'Ont Rien

Derrière les barreaux d'une prison
Parce que t'avais eu d'la tendresse
Pour une bagnole ou un blouson
Quand t'as laissé passer ta chance
Ou qu'elle ne t'a pas reconnue
Tu te retrouves en état d'urgence
Moi qui connais le gris
Des couleurs de la nuit
Laissez-moi chanter
Pour ceux qui n'ont rien
Laissez-moi penser
Qu'y a toujours quelqu'un
Qui cherche à donner
Quelque chose de bien
Qui cherche à couper
Les cartes du destin
Quand t'as r'gardé passer ta vie
Avec l'impression d'être en faute
Tu t'demandes pas si t'as envie
De vouloir être quelqu'un d'autre
Quand t'as r'gardé toutes ces vitrines
Avec tes mains derrière ton dos
Même si demain t'es James Dean
T'auras l'impression d'être zéro
Moi qui connais le bleu
Des matins malheureux
Laissez-moi chanter
Pour ceux qui n'ont rien
Laissez-moi penser
Qu'y a toujours quelqu'un
Qui cherche à donner
Quelque chose de bien
Qui cherche à couper
Les cartes du destin
In Patricia Kaas's song "Ceux Qui N'Ont Rien," the singer addresses those who have been dealt a tough hand in life. The first verse describes those who have lost their youth to prison due to an act of tenderness towards material possessions such as a car or a jacket. The second verse speaks to those who have missed their chance to succeed in life, or have not been recognized for their potential. These individuals find themselves in a state of emergency at the lost and found office, searching for something to hold on to.
The chorus talks about the singer's understanding of the pain and despair experienced by these individuals. She sings about wanting to sing for those who have nothing, to remind them that there is always someone out there seeking to give something good, to try and change their fate.
The second verse continues by describing those who have watched life pass them by, feeling like they are at fault for not having made something of themselves. Even if they were to become as iconic as James Dean, they would still feel like a nobody. The final lines of the song remind listeners that the singer understands the hopelessness of the unlucky, the blues of unhappy mornings, but that she will still sing for them.
