N'abandonnez pas cet enfant qui dort
Ne laissez pas les assoiffés de sang
Avoir raison des mirages de l'âge d'or
Ça m'dérange
Quand on dit qu'on se venge
Ça m'dérange
Pleurez canon
De la beauté ne reste rien
Rien qu'un nom sans prénom
Dans ma chair
Saignent les éclats
De vos convoitises
Et mon cœur se bat
Contre vos bêtises
Dans ma chair
Monte un SOS
Un signal de tendresse
Plus fort qu'un vacarme
Qu'enfin se taisent les armes
Assez coulé de larmes
Touchez pas à la vie
N'entendez-vous pas monter ce cri
Dans ma chair
Pouquoi l'histoire
Perd toujours la mémoire
Boucle sans fin
Toujours la même refrain
Absolution un peu trop facile
Que faut-il pour qu'en fin
L'on soit futiles
Ça m'dérange
Quand on dit qu'on se venge
Ça m'dérange
Les hommes, les femmes, les anges
Aucun animal
Ne tue pour le mal
The song “Dans Ma Chair” by Patricia Kaas revolves around themes of vengeance, war, and the loss of innocence. The opening lines speak of the need to protect the child that sleeps and not let the thirst for blood win over the golden age of mirages. These lines are followed by the chorus, which expresses the pain and anger that the singer feels when she hears talk of revenge. She believes that revenge only leads to further destruction and misery.
The second verse of the song asks why history always seems to lose its memory and why the same refrain is repeated endlessly. The singer questions the ease with which people seek absolution without considering the weight of their actions. She believes that people need to be more mindful of the consequences of their actions and not be so quick to seek forgiveness.
The chorus of the song is repeated, with the singer expressing her pain and her plea for peace. The song finishes with the powerful call for people to spare life and to hear the cries that are being raised.
One interesting interpretation of the song is that it can be seen as a response to the genocide in Rwanda in the 1990s. Patricia Kaas traveled to Rwanda in 1995 with a humanitarian organization and was deeply moved by what she saw. The song is an expression of her horror at the violence and her plea for peace.
