Kaas is currently on a world tour since the end of 2008 to promote her latest album kabaret. She represented France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow, Russia and finished 8th with the song et s'il fallait le faire. The song received positive reviews in several newspapers and polls and a clear majority of 62% of all voters in a questionnaire believed in her chances to win the competition.

The song “Elle voulait jouer cabaret” by Patricia Kaas tells the story of a woman who dreams of performing in a cabaret on a smuggler's ship. The woman does not want to perform in a cheap establishment in Marseille as she has bigger dreams. She wants to travel the world, be the Corsair’s girlfriend, and sing “Blue Bayou” while dancing on the tables. Additionally, she wants to drink Picon beer and sing “Only You” while remaining a blonde prostitute who can scare off the voyeurs.
The song describes a woman who wants more in life than what her origins have to offer. She came from a large industrial city in the north, where they had to close the factories. Since she was little, she wanted to be a cabaret performer and not one of the unlucky tavern staff or serving women.
The lyrics show that the woman is fierce in her ambition, and even though she may be living a difficult and hard life, she is determined to achieve her dreams. The song highlights the idea of hope and how powerful it can be when it comes to pursuing our goals and dreams.
