I Wish You Love
Patricia Kaas Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wish you bluebirds in the spring
To give your heart a song to sing
And then a kiss but more than this
I wish you love

And in July, a lemonade
To cool you in some leafy glade
I wish you health and more than wealth
I wish you love

My breaking heart and I agree
That you and I could never be
So with my best, my very best
I set you free

I wish you shelter from the storm
A cozy fire to keep you warm
But most of all when snowflakes fall
I wish you love

All kinds of love
I wish you love

I wish you love

Overall Meaning

The song "I Wish You Love" by Patricia Kaas is a melancholic yet hopeful song about wishing the best for someone you once loved. The opening lines speak of the arrival of spring and the sight of bluebirds, a symbol of happiness and hope. The singer wishes for the person she is addressing to not only feel happy but also experience love. The mention of a kiss and the repetition of the phrase "more than this" convey a deep longing for this love to be reciprocated.

The second verse mentions the month of July and how the singer wishes for the person to be able to cool down with a glass of lemonade in a peaceful environment. She not only hopes for their physical well-being but also their mental and emotional prosperity. Despite the heartbreak that the singer has experienced with this person, she still cares for their welfare, expressing her wishes for them to have shelter and comfort during stormy weather or cold winters.

The final lines of the song are a heartfelt message of wanting the person to experience all kinds of love, not just romantic love. The mention of foreign content reminds listeners of the universality of love, transcending language barriers and cultural differences. In essence, the song is a touching goodbye message of sorts, with the singer wishing nothing but love and happiness for someone they once cherished.

"Nous avons pu tous deux, fatigués du voyage..."

F.I. Tyutchev

A very respectable cover of the 1964 recording by jazz singer Gloria Lynne. Nice to see such a wonderful modern day stylist like Patricia Kaas keeping these songs alive. I noticed the tag above stating that her album Cafe Noir is an unreleased US album 1996. I see no reason why this material would not be appealing to an American jazz audience. None. My only criticism would be that Patricia needs to record and perform more original material or pick up on some tunes written by songwriters who have great unrecorded material. And I'll go one step further, there's a wealth of good material out there dusty on publisher's shelves -- going all the way back to the 1940's through the 80's that weren't hits. Sometimes a new arrangement, a new tempo and voice -- and a song that missed the first time is a hit. Annie Lennox did "No More I Love You's," and had a hit. But the original song is by a group called The Lover Speaks. If it wasn't for Annie, we never would have known that song. Patricia Kaas has the goods. Great voice, attractive and she knows how to get a song across excellently. Fabulous.
