Quand Jimmy Dit

Il y a deux ans à peine
Un chômeur en déroute
Le fils de la pharmacienne
Un bassiste de Toulouse
Un batteur looké Harlem
Un mélange de jazz and blues
Version new-wave africaine
Quand Jimmy dit "What'd I say
I love you baby"
C'est comme qui dirait
Toute la province qui chante en anglais
Quand Jimmy dit "What'd I say
Oh baby come on"
Ça me fait bizarre bizarre
Quand Jimmy dit "What'd I say
I love you baby"
C'est comme qui dirait
Toute la province qui chante en anglais
Quand Jimmy dit "What'd I say
Oh baby come on"
Quand Jimmy dit "What'd I say
I love you baby"
C'est comme qui dirait
Toute la province qui chante en anglais
Quand Jimmy dit "What'd I say
Oh baby come on"
C'est comme qui dirait
Toute la province qui marche en Weston
The song "Quand Jimmy Dit" by Patricia Kaas is about a young man named Jimmy who formed a band two years ago consisting of a troubled unemployed young man, the son of a pharmacist, a bassist from Toulouse and a Harlem-styled drummer. They play a mix of jazz, blues, and new-wave African music. The song portrays the struggles of Jimmy and his band trying to make it in the music industry. Jimmy has sold his motorcycle and jacket, sacrificed his personal style for the band's image, and has played in small venues, such as rural parties and Saturday night balls, to gain exposure.
Kaas sings from the perspective of a fan who follows Jimmy with devotion, sleeping on his guitar and clinging to his jeans. She admires Jimmy's perseverance and hard work, believing that he will someday become a star if given the chance. The chorus of "What'd I say" is a shout-out to Ray Charles's famous song, indicating that Jimmy and his band aspire to greatness and recognition.
The song "Quand Jimmy Dit" is a tribute to the rock 'n' roll industry and the struggles of young musicians trying to make their mark. It reflects a common theme in music about the sacrifices needed to pursue a dream and the dedication required to achieve success. The song's simple melody and upbeat tone capture the enthusiasm and spirit of the rock genre.
