Malibu
Patricia Paay Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Your money came from playing cards
And in one of those pokerbars
You told me of the moon and stars
And I was deceived by neonlight
When you spoke of rainbownights
Making my life big and bright
Oh, you were born in Hollywood
The mansion cold, the living's good
You own a racehorse Table Two
And a beach house down in Malibu
It sounded too good to be true
But somehow I believed in you
And followed you
And I was so happy
Livin' in the sunshine
In Malibu
The sun was in our eyes
In our little paradise
I had summoned up my life in Malibu
(Malibu) Ohohoho
(Malibu)
Malibu
I was so much in love with you
(Malibu) Too good to be true
(Malibu) But I believed in you
(Malibu) How I loved you
Then suddenly you had to go
For some business down in Mexico
You had no time to explain
But I could expect a little rain
Within an hour the police came
Leaving me here filled with shame
Now Malibu is not the same
And I was so happy
Livin' in the sunshine
In Malibu
The sun was in our eyes
In our little paradise
I had summoned up my life in Malibu
(Malibu) Ohohoho
(Malibu)
Malibu
I was so much in love with you
(Malibu) Lovin' only you
(Malibu) I gave my life to you
(Malibu) Now I lost you
Don't know what to do
I still love you
The song Malibu by Patricia Paay tells the story of a woman who falls in love with a man who seems to have it all β money, charm, and the perfect beach house in Malibu. She was fascinated by him and believed his stories of success and grandeur, even though some of them may have been exaggerated. The lyrics suggest that she was blinded by his charm and the bright lights of the city, and found solace in their little paradise in Malibu. However, their happiness was short-lived as he suddenly had to leave for a business trip to Mexico, leaving her behind with no explanation. Shortly after his departure, the police arrived and left her feeling disgraced and alone. The song conveys the heartbreak and loss that she feels for having trusted someone who turned out to be a fraud.
The songβs lyrics convey a romanticized view of Malibu, which is presented as a paradise where dreams come true. The reference to the police coming suggests that something illegal or dangerous happened while the man was away, adding a sense of danger to the lyrics. The woman still loves the man despite his betrayal, demonstrating her vulnerability and naivete. Overall, the songβs theme speaks to how easy it is to be deceived by appearances and how damaging it can be when we give our trust and love to someone who does not deserve it.

Haar leukste en meest toepasselijke hit heet : Who's that lady with my man. P P is inmiddels 4 x getrouwd :D
