Ce pays que je connais pas

C'est une âme que j'emporte
A chacun de mes pas
Des goûts, des arômes
Un pays fantôme, des mots, des silences,
Mes chansons d'enfance
The lyrics of Patrick Fiori's song Ce pays que je connais pas evoke a sense of longing and nostalgia for a country the singer has never known, but which seems to be a part of him nonetheless. He describes it as a "phantom country" that he carries with him everywhere he goes, through the tastes, aromas, and silences that he associates with it. The country is a blend of different cultures and influences, with Russian and Persian elements, and yet it feels familiar to him, as if it were his own.
The imagery used in the song is both vivid and elusive, as if the country were a mirage that can never be grasped but is always present in the singer's mind. There are references to mountains, streets, train stations, and homes that evoke a sense of place, but at the same time, the country remains nameless and undefined. The singer seems to be exploring his own identity through this imaginary country, as if trying to connect with a part of himself that he has never fully understood.
The chorus of the song repeats the lines "C'est un pays que je ne connais pas / C'est une âme que j'emporte à chacun de mes pas" ("It's a country I don't know / It's a soul I carry with me wherever I go"), emphasizing the emotional weight that the imaginary country has on the singer's life. He dreams of one day visiting this country for real, perhaps with a loved one who shares his longing and his heritage.
Overall, the lyrics of Ce pays que je connais pas are a poignant meditation on identity, belonging, and the power of imagination to create a sense of home in the absence of a physical place.
