L'Instinct Masculin
Patrick Fiori Lyrics

On pourrait savoir
D'où vient l'instinct masculin
Quelle qu'en soit la cause
L'image qu'on impose
On perd celles auxquelles on tient
A force d'y croire
The lyrics of Patrick Fiori's song "L'Instinct Masculin" delve into the idea of masculinity and its origin. The singer muses that by believing in the idea of masculinity and its associated roles and responsibilities, perhaps we can understand where it comes from. He recognizes that societal norms dictate that men must become someone or they are nothing, and that despite believing that we have control over our lives, we may not really know anything for sure.
Fiori suggests that in trying to uphold our roles and responsibilities, we may lose some of the good aspects of ourselves. By imposing certain things, we may lose sight of what actually matters to us. He concludes that these things are a part of our history and memories and are reflected back to us through the eyes of others and the mirror.
In essence, Fiori is suggesting that masculinity is a construct that has been ingrained in us through societal norms and histories, but that by being true to ourselves, we can break free from the rigid roles and responsibilities assigned to us and become better versions of ourselves.
