La Ballade Des Jeux Interdits

Que l'on prend par la main
Et qui soudain comprends
Que son histoire est loin
Qu'il ne sentira plus
La chaleur de ses mains
Se cache dans des jeux incertains.
Dans lequel on retrouve
La douceur des siens
Un ami qui vous ouvre son coeur
Pour sourire à la vie
Et jouer à des jeux interdits.
Joue mon enfant
Comme le ferait le vent
Sur tes cheveux défaits
Grandir prendra du temps
Mettre en terre la vie
Reste un jeu pour les grands
Et toi, Michel, tu n'es qu'un enfant.
Cours ma douceur
Crie pour tes jours de pluie
La guerre a ses horreurs
Que personne n'oublie
Les bercer dans son cœur
C'est un jeu qu'on maudit
Rêve, oublie, ces jeux interdits
Comme une vie
Qui reprend son chemin
Comme un souffle un repère
Qu'on croyait incertain
L'innocence perdue un beau jour
Nous revient comme la mélancolie
De nos jeux interdits.
The song La Ballade Des Jeux Interdits by Patrick Fiori talks about the innocence of childhood and the loss of it as one grows older. The lyrics start with a comparison of a child who realizes that their story is far from over and they will no longer feel the warmth of their parents' hands. The child is then described as playing games that are uncertain and possibly forbidden.
In the second verse, Fiori sings about finding comfort in the eyes of a friend who opens their heart to life and plays forbidden games with them. The chorus encourages the child to keep playing as the wind would play with their hair, and to enjoy their childhood because growing up and facing the realities of life is a game for adults, not for children.
The third verse encourages the listener to keep going through the ups and downs of life and not to forget the horrors of war. The lyrics suggest that holding onto those memories can be a curse, like a forbidden game. The final verse is about discovering lost innocence and the bittersweet longing for the forbidden games of childhood.
Overall, the song is about the fleeting nature of childhood and the longing for the simplicity and innocence that it represents.

Comme un enfant
Like a child
Que l'on prend par la main
Whom we take by the hand

That he will no longer feel
La chaleur de ses mains
The warmth of his hands
Se cache dans des jeux incertains.
And hides in uncertain games.

Pour sourire à la vie
To smile at life

Joue mon enfant
Play, my child
Comme le ferait le vent
Like the wind would do
Sur tes cheveux défaits
On your disheveled hair
Grandir prendra du temps
Growing up will take time
Mettre en terre la vie
Putting life in the ground
Reste un jeu pour les grands
Remains a game for the grown-ups
Et toi, Michel, tu n'es qu'un enfant.
And you, Michel, are but a child.
Cours ma douceur
Run, my sweetness
Crie pour tes jours de pluie
Scream for your rainy days
La guerre a ses horreurs
War has its horrors
Que personne n'oublie
That no one should forget
Les bercer dans son cœur
To hold them in one's heart
C'est un jeu qu'on maudit
It's a game that we curse
Rêve, oublie, ces jeux interdits
Dream, forget, those forbidden games
Comme une vie
Like a life
Qui reprend son chemin
That resumes its path
Comme un souffle un repère
Like a breath a landmark
Qu'on croyait incertain
That we thought was uncertain
L'innocence perdue un beau jour
The lost innocence one fine day
Nous revient comme la mélancolie
Returns to us like melancholy
De nos jeux interdits.
Of our forbidden games.
