Not enough people realize what how great a Genius we lost when we lost Patrice O'Neal.
MrVVulf
You're right. Most people also don't realize Patrice refused many lucrative proposals for work because they didn't align with his goals and personal journey. He viewed comedy as a tool for facilitating TRUE dialogue between gender and race. I can't remember who said it, but it's true - good comedy should make 50% of people laugh, and 50% uncomfortable. The goal of his comedy was always the search for underlying truths about ourselves - think about it, how many times did he say, "Let's be real"?

MrVvulf Ironically your paraphrased quote about 50% of people laughing and 50% of people being uncomfortable was said by Patrice O'neal. It occurs at about the 15:16 mark in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNHonbqlEOs

Agreed. He really developed his style over the years and became one of the greats. It's sad that he couldn't pick the fruit of what his work bore. He was just about to come into loads of deals and money. Also sucks that he had to leave his family behind with next to nothing. But I do hear that Bill Burr and other awesome comedians do a benefit show for his family every so often. I'd totally go and support that if they came to my city.

In my time seen most from 90s to present and rest on here or dvds of pryor and Cosby , Carlin ,Lenny Bruce and no one is on Patrice's level , currently i enjoy Chapelle ,Bill Burr and Corey Holcombe but none of these 6os and 70s comedians in my opinion come close to Patrice .
