Love Songs For Robots
Patrick Watson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Breaking down, your day is getting longer
There's a yellow glass dragon who's chasing you around
Sit your head on a silver jet stream
While the smoke is rising over your thoughts and dreams
Watch over, you watch them fall down
Your nuts and bolts are all over the ground
You get out, get out
You get out, you get out

Something's leaking
It leaks from your eyes while it steals by surprise
Stop wasting your words from running out
As you're running out of thoughts as your burn is burning out
Watch it as it flows through your hands
And whispers close as it whispers away
Get out, you get out, get out

You get out

You get out

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Patrick Watson's "Love Songs For Robots" are open to interpretation, but from my perspective, the song is about feeling overwhelmed and broken down by a world that can be unforgiving and disorienting. The first line sets the tone for the song, with the singer's day growing longer and longer, signifying the increasing weight of the world on their shoulders. The yellow glass dragon that chases the singer may represent an abstract obstacle that they have to overcome, perhaps a symbol of their own fears and anxieties that seem to follow them everywhere. The song also hints at the struggle the singer has with reconciling their thoughts and dreams with the reality around them.

The song takes a turn when the singer speaks of something leaking from their eyes, signaling an emotional breakdown that is as unexpected as it is powerful. The singer is urged to stop wasting words and thoughts as they seem to be running out of fuel. The final lines seem to be a call to action, to take control of the situation and get out of the predicament they find themselves in. Overall, the song feels like a plea for help, a call for hope amidst the difficulties of life.

Patrick Watson, Keaton Henderson, and sufjan stevens have similar vibes, and are some of the most underrated artists, that have the production quality, that is.

I listened to this song a lot this summer, when I was back home, in south of France. Where the light always makes you feel like it’s the golden hour, and all you can hear is the cicadas and the wind. Where all you can feel is the hot breeze on your cheeks and on your thighs. It’s almost erotic.
I’d listen to it when we were driving. I live in a small village and you have at least a 15mn ride to get anywhere. So I’d put my headphones on, open the car’s window and close my eyes. And we would drive fast, all alone in the world, feeling immortal. Just us and my home land, the place I love most on this earth, the place where I feel safe.

If Paradise exists after death, I hope I’ll be driving there, listening to this music for the rest of eternity.

C'est beau mais assez dangereux de conduire les yeux fermés avec des écouteurs à vive allure non ?
