Singing in the local church choirs as a boy, studying jazz and classical piano performance, composition, and arrangement, and singing and playing keyboards in the ska band Gangster Politics in high school. Watson left the band after graduating and began to explore other types of music, including electronica and ambient. In 2002, after returning from a trip to Vietnam, he decided to start a four-piece chamber pop group, bringing in bassist Mishka Stein, drummer Robbie Kuster (both of whom he had met at university), and former Gangster Politics guitarist Simon Angell. The group (which was technically a solo project with a backing band) released Just Another Ordinary Day (2003) independently.
In 2001 Watson released his first own solo debut, Waterproof9 and in 2006 his second, Close to Paradise. Early in 2007, Watson was nominated for a Juno Canada's music award in the New Artist of the Year category.
His band's song "The Great Escape" was featured on a third-season episode of Grey's Anatomy.
He co-wrote and performed on several songs on The Cinematic Orchestra's 2007 album Ma Fleur including the opening track "To Build a Home". His "Missing You" remix of Champion's "Guy Doune", from Champion's 2006 album The Remix Album, reached #1 on CBC Radio 3's R3-30 chart in early 2007.
Patrick Watson (the band) also won the prestigeous Polaris Music Prize (Canada) in 2007.

Luscious Life
Patrick Watson Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Celebrate your dreams
When you are awake
Doesn't it taste so sweet
Like it's growing on all
Growing on the trees
Oh, growing on the trees
I'll slowly turn you from a frown
Sweet old luscious life
My sweet old, my sweet old
Luscious life!
You taste so sweet
When you are so free
My sweet old luscious life
You taste so sweet to me
Hold time, no need for a moment of the day
I celebrate
I need, I need you today
What's one minute of the day
To celebrate
To let it be
To feel so free
When you and me
In the sweet luscious life
For a minute of the day
You turn so sweet
You taste so sweet
Oh, you taste so sweet
In "Luscious Life," Patrick Watson celebrates the simple joys of life, urging the listener to celebrate their dreams and revel in the beauty and sweetness of life. The lyrics evoke feelings of freedom and carefree joy, encapsulating the idea that even a brief moment of happiness is worth cherishing. The repeated use of the phrase "sweet old luscious life" imparts a sense of nostalgia, and Watson speaks of savoring life like fruit growing on trees that can be plucked and enjoyed. He sings of the transformative power of this luscious life, promising to turn a frown upside down and lift one up off the ground.

I love this. My husband not so much. He calls it music to cry to, but I feel so many feelings from this. It's not too much for me. I'm just glad i've found him.
