Walkin' After Midnight
Patsy Cline Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Wa-wa-walking, wa-wa-walking)
I go out walkin' after midnight
Out in the moonlight
Just like we used to do, I'm always walkin'
After midnight, searchin' for you (wa-wa-walking, wa-wa-walking)

I walk for miles along the highway
Well, that's just my way
Of sayin' I love you, I'm always walkin'
After midnight, searchin' for you (wa-wa-walking, wa-wa-walking)

I stop to see a weepin' willow
Cryin' on his pillow
Maybe he's cryin' for me
And as the skies turn gloomy
Night winds whisper to me
I'm lonesome as I can be

I go out walkin' after midnight
Out in the moonlight
Just hopin' you may be somewhere a-walkin'
After midnight, searchin' for me (Wa-wa-walking, wa-wa-walking)

I stop to see a weepin' willow
Cryin' on his pillow
Maybe he's cryin' for me
And as the skies turn gloomy
Night winds whisper to me
I'm lonesome as I can be

I go out walkin' after midnight
Out in the moonlight

Just hopin' you may be somewhere a-walkin'
After midnight, searchin' for me (wa-wa-walking, wa-ooh-ah)

Overall Meaning

Patsy Cline's "Walkin' After Midnight" is a melancholic song of longing for a lost love. The song's lyrics describe the singer taking lonely walks in the moonlight, hoping to find her former lover. She emphasizes how this practice is a way of expressing her love for this person. She walks miles along the highway, searching for someone who might be searching for her.

The singer's search for her lost love is depicted as being intimately connected to the natural world. She stops to see a "weeping willow," a tree known for its emotional symbolism, and wonders if it is crying for her. The "gloomy" night skies and the "whispering" night winds add to the song's sense of melancholy.

Overall, this song captures the deep pain of losing someone and the ways that longing can manifest itself in physical and emotional wanderings. Its lyrics embody the human experience of seeking connection and intimacy with another person, even in the face of great loss.

Patsy and Loretta brought me here! I'm a black woman who was having a Netflix night and this movie came up. Well the rest is history. I'm both a Patsy and Loretta fan now. Music is the universal language. I love this song.

@@tyardovdabulldht2340 I watched it. I like it but I wish they would've let the actresses lip sync and played their real voices. Especially Patsy Cline.. she still has the best female voice in country ever.. if u haven't seen sweet dreams, the older movie about her life, it's very good too
