Tennessee Waltz
Patti Page Lyrics
I was dancing with my darling to the Tennessee Waltz
When an old friend I happened to see
I introduced her to my loved one
And while they were dancing
My friend stole my sweetheart from me
I remember the night and the Tennessee Waltz
Now I know just how much I have lost
Yes, I lost my little darling the night they were playing
The beautiful Tennessee Waltz
I was dancing with my darling to the Tennessee Waltz
When an old friend I happened to see
I introduced her to my loved one
And while they were dancing
My friend stole my sweetheart from me
I remember the night and the Tennessee Waltz
Now I know just how much I have lost
Yes, I lost my little darling the night they were playing
The beautiful Tennessee Waltz

At the time of Page's death on January 1, 2013, this was still the third best selling recording of all time. It is also one of the two official state songs of Tennessee.

Oneupper Bro. Wow, your mom was born 14 years AFTER this song came out... It shows the power of a good song, to be everlasting!

Such a simple and beautiful description of love. Your baby is lucky to have you both x

Idk if anyone else knows this, but Patti Page was actually harmonising with herself, and this was one of the first and most famous overdubs of her time. An overdub is when the artist sings additional parts of the song besides the melody and they are put in later. So she sang the alto and soprano line, different recordings, and they were put on top of each other! I just love that, and her alto voice was CRAZY!!!!!!

That makes perfect sense - I was wondering who they had found for backing vocals with such a similar voice!

I'm 13 and I completely love this song! Songs back then had such a peaceful aura around them. No auto-tune, just natural talent!

It's so refreshing to hear that from someone who is your age!
