Her songwriting has been praised for its wit, and her technical guitar playing has also received praise (which she made light fun of in her feminist song, Not Bad for a Broad).
In 1990, she joined Christine Lavin, Megan McDonough, and Sally Fingerett to form the Four Bitchin' Babes, with whom she toured and recorded one album.
In 2005, Larkin produced La Guitara, a compilation of songs performed by female guitarists designed to answer the question, "Why are there no great female guitar players?" with the answer being that "There are–and here they are."

we're impossible
who'd have thought that we could
you and me babe
we're nobody's fools
we are nothing but good
you and me babe
we're something else
you and me babe when all else fails
we will have what we want
this is all I wanted
all I've waited for
you and me babe
we fell down laughing
couldn't get out fast enough
who's to say there's a
right or wrong way
we don't believe in that stuff
you and me took a breath of air
and spit out all the dust
others tire of their love affairs
leave 'em there to rust
this is all I wanted
all I've waited for
this is all I wanted
all I've waited for
you and me baby
we know everything
and we have been everywhere
you and me babe we
grew a couple of wings
and flew away on a dare
you and me
in a silent room
we prayed for what we got
forever after will be too soon
cause we will have what we want
this is all I wanted
all I've waited for
this is all I wanted
all I've waited for
The song "You and Me" by Patty Larkin is about the unconventional and seemingly impossible relationship between two people. The opening lines of the song, "you and me baby, we're impossible," set the tone for the rest of the lyrics. Despite the odds against them, the two individuals remain committed to each other and believe in their love. They don't care about what others think about their relationship or how it's "supposed to be."
The chorus of the song repeats the line "this is all I wanted, all I've waited for" which emphasizes the point that the two people are content with each other and don't need anything else to make them happy. They have each other's love and support, and that's all that matters.
The second verse of the song talks about how the couple has overcome obstacles and laughed through tough times. They don't believe in the conventional ways of doing things and live life on their own terms. The line "we don't believe in that stuff" refers to societal norms and expectations of how a relationship should be.
The final verse of the song alludes to the couple's spiritual side. They pray together and are content with what they have in life. The final line "cause we will have what we want" emphasizes the point that they are satisfied with each other and nothing else matters.
