You Don't Seem to Miss Me
Patty Loveless Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's a long way off from where I should be goin'
And everytime, I hate to leave your side
But now when I return, there's somethin' missin'
When I'm gone you don't seem to miss me

Now life's so fast and everything is changing'
And if your changing too, then I don't blame you
I remember how you used to kiss me
But when I'm gone you don't seem to miss me

I'm going back, I wonder why
I'm runnin' fast to get home
I just can't wait to see your face but
You don't seem to miss me

No one can take away the things you've given
And all the good we've had alone together
There was a time when you could not resist me
Now I'm gone and you don't seem to miss me

I'm going back, I wonder why
I'm runnin' fast to get home
I just can't wait to see your face but
You don't seem to miss me

I can't wait to see your face
But you don't seem to miss me

Overall Meaning

Patty Loveless's song You Don't Seem to Miss Me is a song about the difficulties of maintaining a relationship while coping with the changes and pressures of day-to-day life. The lyrics detail a protagonist who feels that something has changed between them and their partner, and that their partner no longer seems to feel the same passion and desire for the singer as they did before.

The singer expresses their love and devotion to their partner, but feels that they are no longer reciprocated in the same way. The song's lyrics effectively convey the frustration and disappointment that the singer feels when they come home after being away from their partner, only to find that their partner appears indifferent to their absence.

The lyrics present a complex emotional landscape, where the singer is torn between their intense desire to be with their partner and their realization that their partner may no longer feel the same way about the relationship. The song's chorus, "I'm going back, I wonder why/I'm runnin' fast to get home/I just can't wait to see your face but/You don't seem to miss me," effectively communicates this sense of longing and disappointment with a deep sense of feeling.

Best thing about Patty is she could sing just like this in your backyard. She doesn't need all the machines in the studio to give her a good sound.

So true. In the early 90s, I was was early for one of her shows and got to sit and listen to her warm up in the empty auditorium. No instruments, just her pure, angelic, flawless vocals. Such a gift to witness this. She's truly got a one of a kind sound. So glad she shares it with us!

She could sing a Japanese phone book and I would still crush on her voice and be hungry for more in an hour. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
