Hey Paula
Paul And Paula° Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey, hey, Paula
I want to marry you
Hey, hey, Paula
No one else could ever do
I've waited so long for school to be through
Paula, I can't wait no more for you
My love, my love
Hey, Paul
I've been waiting for you
Hey, hey, hey, Paul
I want to marry you too
If you love me true
If you love me still
Our love will always be real
My love, my love

True love means planning a life for two
Being together the whole day through
True love means waiting and hoping that soon
Wishes we've made will come true
My love, my love

Hey, hey, Paula
I've been waiting for you
Hey, hey, hey, Paul
I want to marry you too
True love means planning a life for two
Being together the whole day through
True love means waiting and hoping that soon

Wishes we've made will come true
My love, my love

Overall Meaning

The song "Hey Paula" by Paul and Paula, released in 1963, is a romantic duet between two high school sweethearts who want to marry each other. The lyrics contain a strong sense of longing, with both Paula and Paul expressing their eagerness to tie the knot after waiting so long. The chorus, "Hey, hey Paula, I want to marry you", signifies the deep desire to start a life together, while the line "no one else will ever do" insinuates that they've found their soulmates and no one else could compare.

The lyrics go on to describe the meaning of true love, emphasizing the importance of being together, waiting, and making wishes for the future. The repetition of "my love, my love" throughout the song adds a sweet, heartfelt touch to the words. Interestingly, the lyrics are not gender-specific, so they can be interpreted as both a male-female or female-female duet.

Overall, "Hey Paula" is a classic love song that captures the essence of young, innocent love. It's a reminder of the excitement and passion that comes with finding that special someone and the anticipation of building a life together.

This song brings tears to my eyes. I met my ’ Paula’ when I was a teenager. We married young in 1970. She was my first and only love and she died suddenly two years ago after 51 years of happy marriage. I’ll love her forever. God bless you Corey-Ann.❤ John

This song reminds me of my husband and I. We were 10 when we met, his family lived next door to my aunt, we were all pretty close, when we were 12 he proposed, I said yes but we kept it a secret, I wasn’t allowed to date or have a boyfriend, my parents were super strict. We graduated in 1976 and got married, after 4 kids, 10 grandkids and 6 great grandkids we’re still married. I don’t know why, but it seems marriages before 1980 last along time, 46 years for us
