Alberta Bound
Paul Brandt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The sign said: Forty miles to Canada
My truck tore across Montana
Ian Tyson sang a lonesome lullaby
And so I cranked up the radio
Cause there's just a little more to go
Before i cross the border at that sweet grass sign

[Chorus]
I'm Alberta bound
This piece of heaven that I've found
Rocky mountains and black fertile ground
Everything I need beneath that big blue sky
Doesn't matter where I go
This place will always be my home
Yeah I've been Alberta bound for all my life
And I'll be Alberta bound until I die

It's a pride that's been passed down to me
Deep as coal mines
Wide as farmers fields
Yeah I've got independence I'm my veins
Maybe its my down home redneck roots
Or these dusty old Alberta boots
Like a Chinook wind keeps coming back again

[Chorus]

Oh it doesn't matter where I go
This place will always be my home

I have been Alberta bound for all my life
And I'll be Alberta bound until I die

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Paul Brandt's song "Alberta Bound" describe the feeling of pride and attachment that the singer feels towards his home province of Alberta. The opening verse sets the scene as the singer drives towards the Canadian border, listening to the music of Ian Tyson, a famous Alberta-born country artist. The chorus expresses the overwhelming sense of belonging and contentment that the singer feels, as he describes the beauty of the Rocky Mountains and fertile ground of his home province. He declares that he will always be Alberta bound, no matter where he goes or what he does, as it is ingrained in his identity and his sense of self.

The second verse reinforces this theme of being deeply connected to one's roots and history, as the singer mentions the coal mines and farm fields that are emblematic of Alberta's industrial and agricultural heritage. He also alludes to his own personal characteristics, such as his independence and his "down home redneck roots," which he attributes to his upbringing in Alberta. The final verse concludes with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the singer's steadfast devotion to his home province.

Overall, "Alberta Bound" is a heartfelt tribute to the beauty and spirit of Alberta, and the pride that its residents feel in calling it home.

Went down to Alberta for the first time this year. Coming from europe it was so awesome to see the hospitality, beauty and warmth in this province. The people here made me feel like Alberta was my home away from home. I will definitely be back someday!

You appreciate it so much more if you were not born or raised here. I remember seeing the wild horses and thinking...just...wow.
