I was just a kid

I was eager to finish high school and move on to the next phase of my life.

Confident, cocky and man it really got me
I was self-assured, even overconfident in myself, and it had both positive and negative consequences.

When I heard my daddy say
My father advised me to go to college and get an education.

You oughta get some knowledge
You should obtain knowledge and gain a formal education.

You gotta go to college
One way to gain knowledge and obtain a degree is by attending college.

Gotta make something of your life
To live a fulfilling life, you must have some purpose and goals.

But I had to do it my way
Despite my father's advice, I wanted to pursue my dreams in my own way.

So I headed for the highway
I left home and took to the road to chase my dreams.

And I followed those little white lines
I drove down the highways with the painted white lines, following them towards my destination.

Well I crashed and I burned
I made mistakes and failed, experiencing setbacks in my journey.

But I don't regret it
Despite the missteps, I do not have any remorse for following my heart.

You only fail if you don't try
The only true failure is to not make any attempt at all.

Gonna brush off the ashes
I will not let my failures define me, but instead, learn from them and move forward.

And just forget it
I will not dwell on the past, but instead focus on the future.

I am not without flaws or imperfections.

Despite my shortcomings, I am confident that one day, I will succeed.
