I grew up in a small town
I was raised in a small town where the only prominent feature was acres of wheat fields.

There was really not much around
There wasn't a lot of development or excitement in my hometown.

I never knew what life would bring
I had no idea what my future held.

But I always had big dreams

I love to play my guitar and sing
My passion is music, I enjoy playing the guitar, and singing.

You blink and you miss it
My hometown was so small that you could hardly notice it if you didn't pay close attention.

I'd get a shot on the Opry stage
My ultimate goal was to perform on the Opry stage.

Have people come and see me play
I wanted to gather a large audience and showcase my talents.

Blastin' out on the radio waves
I desired to broadcast my music far and wide.

Enough to make my mama cry
My success would be so great that even my mother would cry tears of joy.

'Cause that's where I come from
This is where I'm rooted - my hometown and its small-town values.

The best things around that I have ever seen
Some of the greatest things come from small towns and big dreams, like the ones I had growing up.

Small town went and grew up
My hometown eventually expanded and changed as I grew up and left it.

But I never changed much by God's grace
Despite growing up and changing, I'm still true to myself and humble with God's help.

Friends and family kept in touch
My ties to my small town roots were still maintained through friends and family keeping in contact.

I met a girl and we're settlin' down
I found love and am in the process of settling down with my partner.

We want to find a small town
My partner and I want to move to a small town like the one I grew up in to raise our family.

Been around the world don't matter anywhere I go
Despite traveling the world, nothing compares to my small-town upbringing.

Small town stars to city lights
I found small-town people even in the city and bright lights.

It's about you and who you are
Ultimately, you define who you are and where you come from, not your surroundings.

It's all a state of mind
What matters is your perspective and mindset about your circumstances and your dreams.

Just look around you'll see what I mean
The greatness of small towns and big dreams is evident if you open your eyes and take notice.

That's who I am
My small-town roots and big dreams have shaped me into who I am today.
