Prayed for Rain

Get back on your feet again
It flooded when you prayed for rain
You prayed for rain
The well's runnin' dry
Hell, so am I
I won't give up this time
'Cause all my friends, we were born survivors
And every time I close my eyes, I'm dreamin' 'bout tomorrow
You know some things will never change
I think about it when I pray for rain
The rain turned to hail
Cold, dark, and pale
It beat me as I fell
Lord, I fell
The sun sets
And twilight hugs the ground
Oh, we won't let lonely bring us down
Bring us down
'Cause all my friends, we were born survivors
And every time I close my eyes, I'm dreamin' 'bout tomorrow
You know some things will never change
I think about it when I pray for rain
Oh, some things will never change
Think about it when you pray for rain
Pray for rain
Shake off the pain (Shake off the pain)
Get back on your feet again (Back on your feet again)
It flooded when you prayed for rain
You prayed for rain
Well, [if it's ever?] too late
Well, hell will have to wait
Well, it won't get me today
Oh, not today
All my friends, we were born survivors
And every time I close my eyes, I'm dreamin' 'bout tomorrow
You know some things will never change
I think about it when I pray for rain
Oh, some things will never change
I think about it when I pray for rain
'Cause all my friends, we were born survivors
And every time we close our eyes, we're dreamin' 'bout tomorrow
The song "Prayed For Rain" by Paul Cauthen is about enduring hardships and coming out stronger on the other side. The singer encourages the listener to shake off their pain and get back on their feet, even if they feel like they have hit rock bottom. The line, "It flooded when you prayed for rain," suggests that sometimes the things we pray for can come with unexpected consequences, but we must weather the storm and have faith that things will improve.
The second verse speaks to the loneliness that can come with difficult times, but the singer assures that he and his friends are "born survivors" and will not let it bring them down. The repeated line, "some things will never change," could be interpreted as a reminder that difficult times might be a constant in life, but it is how we deal with them that counts.
The chorus serves as a mantra for the listener to hold onto when times are tough. The repetition of "all my friends, we were born survivors" reinforces the idea that we are not alone in our struggles and that we can overcome them.

Paul big fan. Only saying this because I really believe the songwriting at the beginning is THAT good...insane potential.
I think you should’ve dreamed bigger on this one lyric wise...The songwriting up to the first bridge really deserved more. “Flooded when you prayed for rain” and “rain turned to hail” are unmistakeable lyrics to the human condition. You pray to get out of a hole and only get cast down further and then, when you think you’re at bottom you get crushed again by something else (hail) ...,,double fucked....,Completely, universally, relatable to life.
I think parts of this song have some incredible songwriting and I think a few different lyrics are the difference between a cult classic/ fan favorite and a timeless platinum single.
If you wrote this song, maybe spend a little more time on the lyrics next time and go deeper and you may have a multi generational classic on your hands.... cementing your legacy forever.......
Really like the song, just thought it deserves more given the fantastic songwriting at the beginning
Best,
